The UVA Arts Box Office (ABO) seeks a collaborative and detail-oriented Assistant Box Office Manager to help lead daily operations, supervise student staff, and support over 250 events annually across the University of Virginia. Reporting to the Box Office Manager, this position plays a key role in providing excellent customer service and maintaining efficient, professional ticketing operations for a wide range of performances and programs. This position is based in Charlottesville, VA, and requires a flexible schedule to support events across Grounds. Evening and weekend work is expected. The role may involve walking long distances between venues and lifting or transporting equipment (up to 50 lbs.).

Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Deliver outstanding customer service to patrons, clients, and stakeholders.

  • Master the Tessitura ticketing system to manage event creation, subscription entry, donations, ticket sales, and patron data.

  • Supervise public-facing box office operations, including opening and closing procedures; equipment checks and maintenance; daily reconciliation of sales; phone and in-person customer service; and scheduling and managing student employees.

  • Generate daily audits, settlement, gift reports, sales summaries, and various ticketing reports as requested.

  • Ensure accurate and timely processing of ticket orders and patron communications.

  • Assist with recruitment, training, and supervision of student ticketing staff.

  • Support the setup, maintenance, and updates of client events in Tessitura.

  • Oversee performance operations, including equipment planning and setup, will-call preparations, standby line coordination, and student staff support.

  • Work with ABO clients to manage and track complimentary ticket fulfillment for VIPs, donors, press, guests, company members and other stakeholders.

  • Ensure public communication around policies, procedures, and events is clear, accurate, and consistent.

Required Experience and Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

  • Excellent communication, customer service, and problem-solving skills.

  • High level of attention to detail and organization.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Teams, and Excel

  • Ability to learn new systems and software quickly.

  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative, manage tasks, and follow through with minimal supervision while working independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Experience and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent.

  • 2-4 years of experience in customer service, ticketing, arts administration, higher education or a related field.

  • Prior supervisory experience preferred

  • Experience with Tessitura or similar CRM/ticketing platforms.

  • Interest in and enthusiasm for UVA and the arts!
