Finance Generalist

The University of Virginia International Studies Office seeks applications to recruit a Finance Generalist. Finance Generalist are responsible for a variety of professional level work across various financial disciplines. They possess a solid financial background, either gained through work experience or education, which allows them to assume a wide range of duties across multiple areas, including accounting, budget, payroll, financial aid, financial analysis, purchasing, or treasury. Finance Generalists work on behalf of a program, function, or department, independently executing a range of financial responsibilities, based on the organization's needs.
Job duties:
Assist Supervisor with the development and implementation of accurate, timely, and complete budget and accounting documents, spreadsheets, and templates.
Process EA, OPT and STEM OPT fee payments and refunds with corresponding Ad Hoc Banking.
Process J-1 Visa ISD Batches.
Monitor expenditures for adherence to budget and spending guidelines.
Maintain and reconcile Foreign Bank Account Logs.
Process hires, assign labor costing and process period activity pay.
Process purchase orders, assigned carts, and create supplier invoice requests.
Create Manual Journal Entries, Accounting Adj. and Payroll Accounting Adj.
Advise and assist on financial matters as needed, providing up-to-date guidance on university financial policies and procedures.
Review and approve Expense UVA transactions.
Update general Expenditure logs.
Prepare Monthly Account Certifications adhering to department and institutional standards and timelines.
Process and update student billing worksheets, group posts, department awarded scholarships and 3rd party billing.
Process assigned Manual Journal Entries, Accounting Adjustments and Create Payroll Accounting adjustments.
Maintain records for department, following University and Departmental policies and procedures and maintain all documentation and records to meet audit requirements.
Attend meetings and training sessions as needed to keep appraised of changes in policy and procedures.
Initial Workday Roles: Cost Center Deposit Specialist, Cost Center Fiscal Specialist, Accountant, Payroll Costing Manager, Payroll Accounting Adjustment Specialist, Expense Support Specialist, P2P $10K Requisitioner, Accounts Payable Analyst
In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s Degree
Experience: At least two years of experience. Equivalent experience accepted in lieu of degree.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience using Workday.
Proficient with Excel
Physical Demands
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings and programs.
Salary Range
The anticipated hiring range is $60,000–$65,000, commensurate with education and experience.

This position is based in Charlottesville, VA, and is eligible for a hybrid schedule in accordance with UVA’s remote work guidelines.
