Postdoctoral Research Scholar and Program Advisor

The Black and Indigenous Feminist Futures Institute (BIFFI) under the Department of Women, Gender, and Sexuality at the University of Virginia invites applications for a postdoctoral research scholar and program advisor working in the areas of Black and/or Indigenous Feminist studies. The successful candidate will be expected to provide programmatic support for BIFFI and support an active scholarly production. The program of Women, Gender, and Sexuality was founded 44 years ago with a uniquely global emphasis. The program became a department in 2017. It enjoys a warm and vibrant culture of excellence and collegiality.
Job duties include:
Scholarly Production
Working on the scholar's own research agenda
Co-producing scholarly work, including BIFFI digital storytelling project
Support co-directors, library staff, graduate assistants working on BIFFI special collections archive and digital storytelling project
Research related to BIFFI deliverables, including the library resources, course planning, and digital storytelling projects
Digital humanities research and production, including website scholarly content conceptualization and management
Alongside BIFFI Co-PIs, serves as a mentor and resource for Graduate Research Assistants as they contribute to the BIFFI special collections archive and digital storytelling project
Research Program Management
Building/maintaining partnerships with communities (UVA faculty/staff/students, Charlottesville, and Mellon)
Providing leadership for execution of annual programming and event planning

Serving as a point of contact for BIFFI team’s research programs for external audiences and UVA staff
Liaising with Department Manager and Divisional Resource Director to initiate planning and logistics to host fellows, artists, speakers, and guests traveling to UVA for visits, events, residencies, and manuscript workshops
Liaising with Department Manager to process project expenses and honoraria and fees for BIFFI speakers and consultants
Liaising with appropriate staff as needed for events technical support and advertising
Liaising with Post-Award Administrator to conduct financial monitoring of all expenses, reimbursements, and invoicing, including the preparation of regular reports for the team and advising on fund allocation
Liaising with Post-Award Administrator to update the BIFFI team on monthly expense and status reports
Report writing for grant deliverables
Identifying indicators of event successes and establishing processes for collecting metrics (qualitative/quantitative surveys and reminders to gather information, tracking progress, and analyzing results for the annual progress reports)
Working with the Manager of Research Development and Strategic Support on finding and securing future funding for BIFFI and on proposal development
Anticipation Compensation: Starting salary will be $55,000, depending on education and experience, and will include UVA benefits.
Minimum Requirements
Education: PhD.
Preferred Experience
Education: Ph.D. in the humanities, arts, or interpretive social sciences
Experience: Project management experience

Physical Demands
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
