Child Life Assistant

- Facilitate individual and group play sessions to promote normalization of the hospital environment
- Maintain and organize playrooms, activity areas, and bedside activities
- Oversee cleaning of playrooms, toys, supplies and materials in accordance with infection control policies
- Assist with the planning and implementation of special events, celebrations and donations
- Collaborate with volunteers to support playroom activities, special events, and patient engagement, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment
- Escort patients to and from activity areas as needed
- Support Child Life Team with non-clinical tasks
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to support holistic care
- Establishes relationships with team members and families that reflect the key elements of family-centered care and the principles of the Child Life Department
- Treats pediatric patients, families and UVA Health Team Members with dignity and respect
- Meets training requirements on an annual basis.
- In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education: Associate’s Degree in child development or related field.
Experience: Previous experience working with children required.
Licensure: American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification required within 90 days of hire.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently bending/stooping. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull 20 - 50lbs. May be exposed to noise, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.
