The Medication Access Specialty Pharmacy Technician supports timely and efficient patient access to specialty medications by conducting benefits investigations, prior authorization coordination, and financial assistance navigation. Working closely with pharmacists, providers, nursing staff, payers, and patients, the technician ensures insurance requirements are met and barriers to access are resolved. This role plays a critical part in facilitating high-touch, patient-centered specialty pharmacy services across complex disease states.
  • Demonstrates the ability to competently work in general and specialized areas of pharmacy practice.
  • Participates in the training of new employees.
  • Fills and delivers medications under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist/licensed independent practitioner.
  • Policies and procedures are followed consistently.
  • Ensures adequate supplies are available for continuous patient care.
  • Triages and escalates any questions or issues outside the pharmacy technician scope of practice to the staff pharmacist or supervisor as needed.
  • Uses appropriate systems for processing of patient information.
  • Ensures quality assurance is maintained according to departmental and legal requirements.
  • Operates pharmacy equipment appropriately.
  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.
Position Compensation Range: $20.68 - $32.05 Hourly

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: High School Graduate or Equivalent
Experience: 6 months minimum relevant experience required
License/Certification: Commonwealth of Virginia Pharmacy Technician Registration required. CPhT credential through National Healthcareer Association (NHA) or Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) required. For team members hired prior to February 1, 2020, certification as CPhT through NHA or PTCB is required by January 31, 2022.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Job requires standing for prolonged periods. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull less than 20lbs.
