Manager of Competency-Based Programs

The Office of Curriculum in the School of Medicine at the University of Virginia seeks a Medical Education Manager to complement the existing team. The successful candidate is highly organized, attentive to detail, self-motivated, able to work independently, and capable of motivating and rewarding others. The Manager of Competency-Based Programs is an integral part of the departmental leadership, who is responsible for managing 6 FTE and ensuring longitudinal content is delivered effectively and efficiently to medical students. The position works closely with the Associate Dean for Clinical Competency to plan, develop, deliver, and monitor the competency-based curriculum, related budgets, and programmatic metrics of success.
Typical duties include:
- Hiring, training, and evaluating staff.
- Advising the Associate Dean and Operations Manager on administrative problems.
- Overseeing curriculum development, lectures, evaluation, and site visits.
- Creating, interpreting, and communicating policies and procedures.
- Ensuring compliance with policies and procedures.
- Assuming financial control of budgets.
- Advising on budgetary and related problems.
- Preparing for approval by Operations Manager initial budgetary recommendations by considering past requirements, expenditures, and current program plans.
- Managing grant submissions.
- Compiling reports and analyses, noting progress and/or adverse trends and recommending solutions.
- Serving on committees to represent the interests of program and department.
- Ensuring compliance with relevant national organizations.
- Providing quality administrative support to the Associate Dean while maintaining high standards of the program.
The longitudinal and competency-based programs include: Foundations of Clinical Medicine (FCM), Patient Student Partnership (PSP), Intersession, Primary Care and Outpatient Medicine (PCOM) Clerkship, and Entrustable Professional Activities (EPAs). Longitudinal curriculum for the MD students supports the development of critical clinical skills for students during the four years they are in Medical School. The content delivered in these programs is integrated with their coursework and experiential learning.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
Experience: Five years relevant experience, preferably in Medical Education. Nine years equivalent experience, preferably in medical education, may be considered in lieu of a degree.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or higher
- Experience working in higher education, at an academic health care institution
- Experience supporting medical education programs or curriculum
- Proficiency in VMED, OASIS, M365, Teams, Box, Zoom, and Workday
PHYSICAL DEMANDS This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
