The Jackson Lab is searching for a qualified Lab Specialist (Intermediate level) to join the team. This role will support our research by performing experiments, analyses, and technical procedures in a laboratory setting. The Jackson lab studies viral mechanisms of pathogenesis in HIV and novel therapeutics for infectious diseases. Recent work has focused on the HIV-1 Rev-Rev Response Element regulatory mechanism and its impact on HIV transmission and persistence. Routine work in the lab includes human tissue culture, molecular biology, and lentiviral vectors. This role is expected to contribute to ongoing research projects by generating reliable data, maintaining laboratory equipment, and ensuring adherence to established protocols and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and carry out routine and complex laboratory experiments.
  • Collect, analyze, and document experimental data with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Troubleshoot non-routine issues and adjust methods to improve reliability or efficiency.
  • Collaborate with team members to support project goals and interpret results.
  • Maintain lab equipment, inventories, and records in compliance with organizational and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide guidance and basic training on laboratory procedures and safety practices.
  • Communicate procedures, findings, and technical considerations.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education: Bachelor's degree required, may accept combination of experience/education/certification in lieu of degree.

Experience: 1+ year of relevant lab experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior work with tissue culture
  • Prior work with lentiviral vectors
  • Prior experience in BSL2 environments
  • Prior experience with human tissue samples
  • Prior experience with flow cytometry
  • Ability to work independently on routine tasks and with limited supervision on more complex activities.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

This position can spend extensive periods of time standing and squatting while conducting experiments or caring for animals. Also requires keyboarding and other bench work and animal procedures requiring finer finger manipulation.

Salary will be commensurate with education and experience.

This is a restricted position, which is dependent on funding and is contingent upon funding availability.
