CRC Team Lead, Department of Pediatrics

The Department of Pediatrics in the University of Virginia’s (UVA) School of Medicine is seeking candidates for a Clinical Research Coordinator (CRC) Team Lead, licensed or non-licensed, at the experience level of a CRC 4. The Department’s research mission is comprehensive and includes an expansive clinical research portfolio that spans its 16 sub-specialty areas.
The CRC Lead will support clinical research efforts for the Department of Pediatrics as well as serve as a leader for a dynamic research team. The individual will be responsible for assisting the Department faculty in conducting National Institute of Health (NIH), industry sponsored clinical trials, and/or investigator-initiated trials. In this role, the CRC Lead will work closely with the clinical team including faculty, advanced practice providers, and staff. The focus of clinical research activities will vary based on the clinical trial portfolio and include patient facing activities, compliance management and clinical research administrative responsibilities.
A Clinical Research Coordinator Lead will have an understanding of the clinical research process and regulations, both federal and local, governing the conduct of clinical research. They will be able to manage multiple complex clinical trials simultaneously in accordance with current regulatory requirements and maintain study documentation in a manner that is audit ready. The team lead will also oversee staff management, development, and evaluation for their group. They will participate in developing clinical research policies and procedure and work closely with the rest of the CRC team within the Department of Pediatrics.

Job Responsibilities:
- Provide guidance and assistance to Principal Investigators for grant submissions, budget management and research compliance oversight to ensure full compliance with local, state and federal policies and procedures.
- Assist Principal Investigator in developing clinical trial protocols and preparing and submitting the required documentation to the Institutional Review Board, the University, federal regulators in industry or government sponsor.
- Coordinate and manage all aspects of clinical trial conduct for multiple ongoing clinical trials of any level of complexity.
- Participate in planning and analysis of research portfolios, in conjunction with department management and Principal Investigators.
- Oversee the financial management of multiple clinical research projects, including budget development, billing reconciliation, and quarterly review of all Principal Investigator accounts.
- Manage a team of Clinical Research Coordinators and/or laboratory or research support staff, with responsibilities that include hiring, scheduling, workload management, compensation, rewards, professional development, and performance management.
- Coordinate clinical research education, training and/or orientation for new Faculty, Fellows, Residents or medical students.
- Develop administrative and financial recommendations for department management and Principal Investigators for research portfolio review.
- Compile data and documents during internal and external audits and is ultimately responsible for quality of submissions.
- Participate in at least 1 research-related working group at the institutional level or lead a process improvement initiative at a department or division level.
- Conduct research data analysis and literature searches. Co-author scientific papers, publications or presentations
- In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
The Pediatric Department will be hiring into the following job profiles below based on qualifications and experience (working title: Clinical Research Coordinator Team Lead):
Clinical Research Manager or Clinical Research Coordinator 4, Non-Licensed
- Education: Bachelor's Degree Required or equivalent combination of experience, education and or certifications.
- Experience: At least seven years of clinical research experience demonstrating progressive levels of responsibility and complexity of work. Master’s or other advanced degrees may substitute for one year of clinical research experience.
- Licensure: Clinical Research Coordinator (CCRC) and/or Certified Clinical Research Professional (CCRP) is required within one year of hire.
Clinical Research Coordinator 3, Non-Licensed
- Education: Bachelor's Degree Required or equivalent combination of experience, education and or certifications.
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years of clinical research experience required. Master’s degree may substitute for 1 year of clinical research experience.
- Licensure: Clinical Research Coordinator (CCRC) and/or Certified Clinical Research Professional (CCRP) is preferred at the time of hire and is required within one year.
Physical Demands
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
