The Sheila C. Johnson Center for Clinical Services within the School of Education and Human Development at the University of Virginia seeks qualified applicants for a full-time position as a Healthcare Office Assistant & Front Desk Specialist.
UVA’s Sheila C. Johnson Center for Clinical Services at the School of Education and Human Development provides transdisciplinary clinical services for individuals of all ages, incorporating the expertise of licensed professionals and faculty with graduate training programs spanning a range of clinical specialties. The Center serves the needs of the community by providing a vibrant, welcoming, modern, and elegant setting for the provision of clinical psychology, speech and language pathology, audiology, and reading services.
The individual will assume a key role on a well-organized outpatient administrative staff team. The Healthcare Office Assistant & Front Desk Specialist conducts a range of clinical support services, potentially including patient reception and telephone screening, obtaining insurance information and authorization, scheduling appointments, referral and file management, credentialing, purchasing, chart auditing, data tracking, and troubleshooting, as well as advising on solutions and implementing process improvements as needed to support high quality clinical care and clinical training. Initial on the job training and support will be provided for all duties.
Healthcare Office Assistants also perform work with ongoing supervisor support, training, and high standards for customer service and collaboration.
Required skills include:
Strong organizational skills;
Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills;
Digital fluency and general knowledge of Microsoft office software (e.g., Excel, Outlook, Word);
Ability to learn and interface with University and Clinic technologies (electronic medical record, accounting systems, etc.)
Ability to interact with various levels of internal and external constituencies with confidentiality and high levels of customer service;
Ability to work quickly at times, while maintaining accuracy and professional demeanor.
Ability to work remotely and in-person.
Minimum Requirements
Education: High School Graduate or Equivalent required. Associates degree preferred.
Experience: 2 years relevant experience required. Access Associate fully cross-trained to cover multiple specialties will be considered in lieu of the 2 years relevant experience.

Job requires sitting for prolonged periods; Repetitive motion: (computer and mouse use). Proficient communicative skill across spoken, writing domains, adequate auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly and compose messages clearly and concisely.
Salary Range: $24.00 to $29.55/ hour commensurate with education and experience.

Work Arrangement: This position is based in Charlottesville, VA, and must be performed fully on-site.
