Position Summary
The Senior Academic Programs Coordinator for the Cognitive Science Undergraduate Program provides advanced administrative support, direction, and leadership for the Cognitive Science interdisciplinary major. The incumbent is a key partner in managing academic programs and events for the major.
Position Responsibilities
Cognitive Science Program Support--Academic Planning and Curriculum and Events Support
- Provides administrative leadership and support the Cognitive Science Program, an interdisciplinary major in the College of Arts & Sciences, in collaboration with the Director of the Cognitive Science Program and Department of Psychology Chair, Assistant Chair and Psychology Undergraduate Coordinator.
- Assists the Director of Cognitive Science Program with the administration of the major; provides advanced levels of support requiring a broad understanding of organizational operations, procedures, and personnel.
- Coordinates Student Information related to undergraduate majors. Advises students in the major declaration process.
- Coordinates Docusign processes related to major and collaborates with the Director of Undergraduate Program as well as the cognizant faculty member for the Distinguished Major Program.
- Maintains continuity for these processes as cognizant faculty roles evolve. Coordinates with program-affiliated faculty across disciplines, Psychology undergraduate major representatives, University Registrars’ Office and College representatives to coordinate course offerings and class scheduling.
- Oversees confidential student records in the Student Information System (SIS) and Stellic.
- Performs reviews at regular intervals including at declaration of major, prior to graduation and at time of award nominations or other milestones related to program requirements.
- Manages strategic assignment of faculty advisors, optimizing match within discipline whenever possible
- Meets with students to discuss major and/or minor requirements and review their progress in major
- Manages program data and data archives.
- Interprets and disseminates reports as required.
- Independently generates complex and detailed presentations and reports.
- Manages a variety special events
- Other Duties as Assigned
Minimum Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma/GED
- 3+ years of relevant professional experience required.
- Licensure/Certifications: none
Preferred Qualifications
- Education: A bachelor’s degree in Psychology or a related field
- Master's degree in Psychology or a related discipline strongly preferred
- Experience: 3-5 years experience in a complex academic department
- Demonstrated understanding of academic models
- Demonstrated understanding of teaching paradigm/classroom settings
- Experience in student support role
Physical Demands
- This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings and programs
- The anticipated hiring range is $27.75-$31.50/hour, commensurate with education and experience.
- This is a non-exempt-level, benefited position.
- This position is based in Charlottesville, VA, and must be performed fully on-site.-
