The University of Virginia's Health System is seeking an experienced Electronic Door Mechanic to join our team in our Facilities Management Health System Physical Plant. This position plays a vital role in maintaining safe, secure, and compliant environments across the University’s healthcare facilities. Electronic Door Mechanics are responsible for diagnosing, calibrating, repairing, installing, configuring, and modifying electronic and electro-mechanical door control equipment. This role supports critical infrastructure in a fast-paced healthcare environment and can involve working in high-risk settings.

Duties Include:

  • Install electronic devices and controls.

  • Perform troubleshooting, circuit analysis as part of testing and calibrates equipment according to specified NFPA standards.

  • Perform all work in accordance with safety rules and procedures, such as OSHA, BOCA, federal, state, and local regulations, applicable building codes, and Joint Commission Standards.

  • Inform customers of job status, reasons for and duration of expected delays, as well as refer customers to the supervisor when appropriate.

  • Conduct inspections, maintain logs, and report areas of concern that would result in system shutdown.

  • Provide technical support and training to lower-level technicians

  • Perform miscellaneous duties such as snow and ice removal and special events setups, as assigned by the supervisor.

  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Two years experience with related electronic equipment; Automatic door installation and repair skills are essential.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Four years experience with related electronic equipment

  • Experience working on electronic door systems such as Dorma, Horton, and Stanley

  • Experience working on LCN operators & electronic door hardware such as Von Duprin & Corbin Russwin

Compensation:

The Anticipated Hiring Range for this position is $24.50 to $29.50 per hour ($50,960 - $61,360 Annually), commensurate with experience. This is a full-time position with UVA benefits. Employee benefits package highlights include:

Physical Demands:

Requires regular walking, standing, kneeling, crawling, squatting, and climbing ladders or stairs, lifting and carrying of various weights. Repetitive motion for grasping, pulling, pushing, and operating hand and power tools; work may occur in a variety of indoor and outdoor conditions and environments.
