The University of Virginia is a highly competitive Division I program committed to academic and athletic excellence. The Department of Athletics at the University of Virginia is now accepting applications for the position of Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach to support various Olympic Sports programs.

Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coaches are responsible for contributing to the successful development and execution of one or more sports conditioning and training programs, as well as assisting student athletes with achieving their identified goals. They participate in the planning, design, and implementation of an effective strategy to maximize the physical capabilities and athletic performance of team members. They analyze individual player needs, provide instruction on proper techniques and achieving established targets, maintain weight rooms and equipment, adhere to compliance requirements, and support sports program needs with regard to official visits by prospective student athletes.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Oversee various individual sport program's strength and conditioning needs.
  • Assess student-athlete's physical attributes to improve athletic performance.
  • Maintain weight rooms and equipment.
  • Assist head coaches with official visits by prospective recruits.
  • Manage and/or coordinate services with various departmental and University offices.
  • Uphold NCAA, ACC, and University rules and regulations.
  • Perform miscellaneous related duties when necessary.
  • This position will work primarily with Men's/Women's Soccer, but will assist with other Olympic sports, as assigned by the Associate AD for Strength & Conditioning.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Work knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.
  • Ability to reason, recall, analyze and organize information in order to make substantive and sometimes complex decisions reaching reasonable conclusions within established guidelines.
  • Ability to comprehend potential issues and address them before they become problematic.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with diverse groups of people.
  • Ability and desire to perform accurate, detail-oriented work, and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to maintain poise under all circumstances and effectively interact with people in a positive manner.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to function professionally in highly stressful situations and to provide clear information on an impromptu basis to individuals or groups of people.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends to meet the business needs of the unit, potential travel may be necessary in support of sports teams.

Minimum Qualification:

Education: Bachelor's degree or currently enrolled as a college senior at an accredited institution.

Experience: Experience in a weight room setting.

Licensure: Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) certification from the NSCA or Strength and Conditioning Coach Certified (SCCC) certification from the CSCCa.

Preferred Qualifications

Education: Master's Degree

Experience: Experience with Men’s and Women’s Soccer highly preferred. Experience with GPS/Catapult monitoring preferred.

About the Position

Anticipated Hiring Range: $45,000 - $55,000, dependent upon qualifications and experience. The selected candidate will pass a background check. This position will not sponsor applications for immigration now or in the future. This is a full-time position with UVa benefits.

Physical Demands

Work is performed in the process of providing strength and conditioning coaching to student-athletes in a fitness facility, on sports fields, and in sports stadiums.
