Cancer Center Administrative Intern

Under the supervision of a manager or supervisor the intern learns the basic operational skills and professional development required to work in healthcare management. The intern will shadow leadership from different departments and perform assigned tasks in order to gather experience in different areas of operation within University of Virginia Health System. The intern may assist the Manager or Director with projects, events and work relevant to specific departmental needs.
  • Demonstrates basic healthcare operation knowledge.
  • Maintains compliance with departmental policies and procedures.
  • Engages in professional self-development.
  • Performs tasks to reinforce industry specific issues related to the degree as well as the needs of the Health System.
  • Individual assignments are completed under the direction of the appropriate Health System Leader.
  • Develops recommendations around how to improve processes.
  • Demonstrates computer skills and proficiency in the utilization of standard software specific to departmental needs.
  • Communicates and collaborates with assigned work team to provide backup coverage and support as needed.
  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: Actively enrolled in a degree for Healthcare Administration, Public Health, or related area.
Experience: No experience required; relevant work experience healthcare or public health preferred
Licensure: None

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.

The starting base rate for this role is $15.00 hourly. Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate's qualifications, previous work experience, and/or education.
