Program Manager, Mayo Center for Asset Management at the Darden School of Business

The University of Virginia Darden School of Business seeks a Program Manager to join its Mayo Center for Asset Management team. The Program Manager supports and advances the Darden School mission of inspiring purpose-driven, innovative leaders who will change the world. This position provides ongoing support and leadership to the implementation and development of strategic enterprise initiatives with the goal of furthering the school’s presence and stature across all areas of asset management.

The Program Manager supports the development of a strong network of advocates for UVA Darden, particularly in major private capital ecosystems, across the United States and globally. This community is foundational to Darden’s ability to deliver a suite of ever-evolving programmatic offerings that enhance and amplify the Darden student experience and careers in private capital and asset management more generally and support faculty initiatives in asset management and related fields.

This position is actively engaged in cross-enterprise teams including members of the Batten Institute, Mayo Center, Career Services Center, Communication & Marketing, Office of Research Services and others to advance the mission and priorities and accelerate Darden’s impact as a leader in asset management among top global business schools.

This position reports directly to the Executive Director of the Mayo Center for Asset Management and works in collaboration with the Mayo Center’s Associate Director, the Batten Institute and other units of UVA Darden to support students, faculty and other key stakeholders. The Program Manager is also accountable to the Mayo Center Academic Directors who provide faculty leadership and academic guidance to Center initiatives.

Primary areas of focus for the Program Manager include:

Stakeholder Areas of Impact:

Students

  • Supports Darden students across all MBA formats through a portfolio of programs which are educational, experiential and offer unique networking opportunities with leaders in the asset management community. Supported programs may include workshops, pitch competitions, learning series, speaker series, job treks, internships/fellowships and student clubs, and may be delivered in Charlottesville, at Darden’s Sands Family Grounds in Rosslyn, VA or in other major ecosystems around the world.
  • Works with the team to cultivate relationships with employers and firms to create internship and hiring opportunities with alumni and firms in asset management.
  • Integrates programming and initiatives focused on careers in asset management with Career Center programs, offerings and approaches and engages in Career Center programming, systems and reporting.
  • Works in partnership with the other centers/institutes at Darden to support student career advancement. Attracting the best firms to recruit at Darden and connecting students to these opportunities will be a major source of impact.

Faculty

  • Supports Darden faculty through strategic planning and outreach for course speakers, conference panelists, guests, and case-writing opportunities.
  • Help faculty engage with companies for pursuing academic research and the development of teaching materials.
  • Supports faculty in the development of courses and materials related to asset management.

Darden Enterprise

  • Collaborates with stakeholders across the Darden enterprise.
  • Develop strong partnerships and a collaborative, team-based approach. This role has responsibilities for ensuring effective and timely coordination and communication across units supporting asset management efforts at Darden and increasing the impact of such activities.
  • Coordinates and support key areas of the Darden enterprise that may be active in asset management-related activities.

Responsibilities for the Program Manager include:

  • Organizes and coordinates the planning, implementation, and de-briefing of projects, conferences, and events.
  • Coordinates efforts in Mayo Center initiatives including Real Estate, Venture Capital, and Private Equity across Darden including in research and thought leadership, support for curricular offerings, management of co-curricular resources, and engagement with external stakeholders.
  • Supports Career Center advising and coaching team to support students considering and pursuing careers in private capital and asset management generally, including individual advising.
  • Implements ongoing management of communication channels and outreach for prospective and current students regarding asset management at Darden such as enhancing and maintaining a web presence, developing articles in partnership with Communication and Marketing.
  • Partners with the Darden Advancement team and Dean’s Office as needed.
  • Amplifies support for student clubs and events.
  • Provides a centralized resource for companies in the asset management industry to contact Darden in search of top talent.

Required Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and at least two years of experience required. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of degree requirement.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Collaborative team player who can work and communicate effectively, respectfully, and professionally with students, faculty, staff, and other important Darden enterprise stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated results for achieving metrics-driven goals through systemic development with educational or similar organizations.

  • Ability to manage budget processes and procedures.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Belief in the mission of the Darden School, and passion for the University of Virginia.
