Parking Controls Technician

The University of Virginia’s Department of Parking & Transportation is seeking a skilled and motivated Controls Technician to support a wide range of technology infrastructure across the department’s facilities. This role is essential to the reliable performance of parking access control, revenue collection, communication, and parking guidance systems. The Controls Technician will collaborate with both internal teams and external contractors to maintain, troubleshoot, and upgrade systems that integrate network, cellular, and electrical components.
Responsibilities:

Install, troubleshoot, and maintain a variety of electrical and networked systems, including:
Parking access and revenue control systems (e.g., gate arms, intercoms)
License Plate Recognition (LPR) camera systems
Pay stations
Cellular and Wi-Fi signal boosting equipment
Digital signage and wayfinding
Parking occupancy sensors and guidance systems
Collaborate with vendors and contractors on project execution and system upgrades
Diagnose system errors using software tools and diagnostic equipment
Perform general facilities maintenance across all P&T assets
Maintain organized workspaces and service vehicles
Complete work orders promptly and accurately using internal systems
Provide excellent customer service and communication to internal stakeholders
Required Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent

Two years of experience in IT, electrical, elctronics, or technology systems
Proficiency using software diagnostic tools and computer applications
Ability to perform hands-on electrical and mechanical tasks
Valid driver’s license
Preferred Qualifications:
Associate degree (2-year) in Electrical Engineering, Technology, or related field
Experience in the parking or mobility technology industry
Experience with systems integration or building/property technologies
Familiarity with access control systems and electronic repair
Background in property or facility management
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Excellent troubleshooting and analytical skills
Strong organizational habits and ability to manage time independently
Willingness to learn new systems and technologies
Ability to communicate clearly and work collaboratively with teams
Compensation:
The Anticipated Hiring Range for this position is $28.85 - $34.62 per hour ($60,000 - $72,000 per year). This is a full-time position with UVA benefits. Employees benefits package highlights include:

Physical Demands:
Requires regular walking, standing, kneeling, crawling, squatting, and climbing ladders or stairs, lifting and carrying of various weights. Repetitive motion for grasping, pulling, pushing, and operating hand and power tools; work may occur in a variety of indoor and outdoor conditions and environments.
