Maintenance Technician

The University of Virginia’s Department of Parking & Transportation is seeking a skilled and motivated Maintenance Technician to support a wide range of parking assets across the department’s facilities. The person who accepts this role will be responsible for keeping parking garages, parking lots and buildings safe, clean and up to date by using floor sweepers, paint sprayers and hand tools. A background in construction is preferred but not required. Potential candidates should be flexible in their willingness to work varying hours and weekends.
This position is located in Charlottesville, VA.
Duties Include:
Perform preventative maintenance and emergency repair for multiple building trades.
Ability to use various hand/power tools.
Work outside in hot and cold weather.
Maintain accurate daily logs of jobs and time tickets.
Conduct inspections of buildings and equipment to identify problems.
General computer skills
Ensure all safety equipment and personal protective equipment are used.
Foster a safe work environment by instructing and monitoring compliance of OSHA, federal, state, and local regulations.
Inform customers of job status and reasons for and duration of expected delays.
Receive requests for work and consequently submit work orders regarding the resolution of issues and tracking of progress.
Execute preventative maintenance programs and consistently review schedules for major equipment.
Assist in quality assurance of maintenance work based on best practices and industry standard.
Maintain an awareness of safety policies and enforce guidelines as required.
Provide exceptional customer service to all constituencies, promptly responding with professionalism and expertise.
Assist Facility Coordinators in miscellaneous activities such as organizing meetings and training as needed.
In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties/shifts may be assigned.
Required Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent
Preferred Qualifications:
At least four years of experience in plumbing, electrical, or HVAC trade.
Journeyman or higher license in either HVAC, Electrical, or Plumbing.
Compensation:
The Anticipated Hiring Range for this position is $20.00 - $26.00 per hour ($41,600 - $54,080 Annually), commensurate with education and experience. This is a full-time position with UVA benefits. Employees benefits package highlights include:

Physical Demands:
Requires regular walking, standing, kneeling, crawling, squatting, and climbing ladders or stairs, lifting and carrying of various weights. Repetitive motion for grasping, pulling, pushing, and operating hand and power tools; work may occur in a variety of indoor and outdoor conditions and environments.
