Research Scientist - Kuan Lab

The Department of Neuroscience and the Center of Brain Immunology and Glia at the University of Virginia is seeking an experienced and motivated Research Scientist to work in the Kuan Lab to investigate (1) vascular factors in neurodegeneration and/or (2) experimental thrombolytic and collateral circulation treatments, mainly using murine models.
Responsibilities
The job responsibilities include designing and executing experiments independently with minimal instructions from the Lab Head. The responsibilities also include teaching junior postdoctoral fellows and supervising research assistants.
Research Scientists are expected to perform assigned tasks independently. In addition to a firm background in the particular field, Research Scientists should demonstrate the ability to lead small groups and work without additional supervision once objectives are defined and methods of approach are set. As Senior Professional Research Staff, they are not expected to provide formal guidance to students or otherwise participate in the instructional program.
In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants for this position must have a PhD degree in neuroscience, cell biology, immunology, pharmacology, physiology, or other basic biomedical research fields, and >10 years of working experience as a Postdoctoral Fellow or higher
Physical Demands
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.

This position is based in Charlottesville, VA, and must be performed fully on-site.
