The Center on Tobacco Control Research & Policy within the Department of Public Health Sciences and the Cancer Prevention and Control Program at the University of Virginia Cancer Center is hiring two Research Assistants. The Research Assistants will support several community-based research projects that target tobacco prevention and control cancer initiatives across a range of populations including youth, rural populations, military populations and pregnant women. These positions are based at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, VA working closely with Dr. Melissa A. Little and other faculty members within the Center on Tobacco Control Research & Policy.
The successful applicant(s) will have the opportunity to work on multiple projects including several National Institutes of Health (NIH) and foundation grants. Most projects are intervention-based, including individually based telephone counseling, classroom-based interventions and text-messaging interventions. Candidates will be given the opportunity to contribute to study implementation, data analyses and manuscript writing.
What you will do:
Help develop protocols and IRB submissions.
Collect, screen, and verify data relating to human subject’s research.
Deliver behavioral interventions.
Assist with data management and analysis
May help author material for publications. May participate in presentations with Principal Investigators (PIs) at meetings or conferences.
May supervise student workers.
In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
