IT at UVA is seeking a Business Systems Analyst to support financial transparency and accuracy across IT services. This role focuses on auditing vendor invoices, verifying billing data, and collaborating across departments to ensure accurate and complete financial records for services billed to the University community. The position also contributes to financial analysis and accounting services related to ITS service charges. Interacts with various levels of both inter- and intra-departmental management. The supervisor will provide general instructions and advice, but the position should be able to grasp concepts and develop work product without supervision

Duties Include but are not limited to:

IT at UVA is seeking a Business Systems Specialist to support financial transparency and accuracy across ITS services. This role focuses on auditing vendor invoices, verifying billing data, and collaborating across departments to ensure accurate and complete financial records for services billed to the University community. The position also contributes to financial analysis and accounting services related to ITS service charges.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Audit vendor invoices to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with contractual terms.
  • Confirm and validate billing information across internal systems and ITS departments.
  • Elicit and create business process maps/visualizations using business process modeling notation standards to define current, future and gap process states.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to obtain, verify, and reconcile billing data, while fostering partnerships across ITS to support project goals and stakeholder needs.
  • Analyze financial data and develop thoughtful, creative recommendations with minimal supervision.
  • Provide fiscal oversight of budgets and transactions as it pertains to monthly reconciliation of recoveries and expenses, including management of required adjustments.
  • Produce summary and detailed financial reports for internal stakeholders.
  • Learn and use database tools to generate ad hoc reports and support data-driven decision-making.
  • Develop, execute, and document test plans to validate appropriate system configuration.
  • Identify anomalies in data sets and develop actionable insights.
  • Ensure high-quality data is collected and maintained for ongoing billing requirements.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or an Associate degree preferred with at least 5 years of work experience in an IT department or field. HS diploma required.
  • Ability to effectively meet deadlines
  • Highly organized with excellent attention to detail
  • Excellent qualitative analysis skills (aptitude for listening with intention, ability to iterate in the moment, ability to establish rapport quickly, and to analyze information and present debrief materials, etc.)
  • Excellent quantitative analysis skills (aptitude to analyze data, derive conclusions to predict future outcomes, technical writing, outcome measurement, etc.)
  • Strong collaboration skills (ability to partner with technical, end user and cross functional experts to build consensus and understanding of problems)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience as an IT business analyst
  • Experience working with staff and executive leadership
  • Experience implementing enterprise IT solutions
