The University of Virginia’s Department of Radiology and Medical Imaging seeks a strategic, analytical, and collaborative leader to serve as Director of Quality Assurance & Clinical Projects. This role provides oversight of quality assurance initiatives and clinical operational projects that promote excellence in patient care, patient safety, and process improvement across the Department and Medical Center.

The Director partners closely with the Vice Chair of Quality, Vice Chair of Clinical Operations, Medical Directors, Division Chiefs, Associate Chief of Medical Imaging, and other leaders to advance high-impact initiatives. Responsibilities include leading quality assurance programs, overseeing complex project portfolios, supporting clinical operations improvement efforts, and delivering data-driven best practices that inform decision-making and optimize outcomes. The Director also ensures alignment with regulatory and compliance standards, strengthens quality infrastructure, and advances continuous improvement efforts across the organization.

This role is critical in ensuring leadership has the strategic and operational support needed to successfully implement key initiatives and enhance systems, processes, and patient care delivery.

The ideal Director of Quality Assurance & Clinical Projects demonstrates excellence in these key areas of competence:

  • Knowledge of healthcare quality assurance frameworks, regulatory standards, and benchmarking practices; ability to interpret and apply requirements to support patient safety, peer review, and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
  • Critical thinking capabilities needed to analyze, evaluate, and synthesize complex clinical, operational, and performance data to inform decision-making, identify trends, and address risks to quality outcomes.
  • Interpersonal and communication skills that build effective partnerships with clinical and administrative leadership, foster collaboration across multidisciplinary teams, and support successful implementation of initiatives.
  • Ability to manage multiple clinical and operational projects of varying size and complexity, including planning, resource coordination, timeline management, and successful delivery of outcomes.
  • Effectively manage workflows, priorities, and deliverables across quality assurance programs, data reporting, and project activities to ensure alignment with departmental and Medical Center goals.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and utilize data reporting and analytics, including performance metrics, operational dashboards, and routine reporting to support leadership decision-making and performance improvement.
  • Ability to identify opportunities for process improvement and drive implementation of solutions that enhance efficiency, standardization, and quality of care.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in an appropriate specialty required.

Experience: 4+ years of relevant professional experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior healthcare experience in academic medicine
  • Prior experience leading or supporting healthcare quality assurance and performance improvement programs.

Physical Demands

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.

  • Salary will be commensurate with education and experience.

  • This is a restricted position, which is dependent on funding and is contingent upon funding availability.
  • This position is based in Charlottesville, VA, and is eligible for a hybrid schedule on grounds per week, with additional on-site presence as needed, in accordance with UVA’s remote work guidelines
