External Relations at the University of Virginia (UVA) seeks applications for an Advancement Business Intelligence Analyst to join the BI & Analytics team. Position Summary
The Analyst will play a senior role in transforming complex data into actionable enterprise insight—designing and delivering reporting products, advancing the team’s analytic capabilities, and ensuring that leadership and cross-functional partners have consistent, trusted information to guide strategy and resource allocation.
This role offers the opportunity to lead meaningful analytic work at one of the nation’s leading higher education institutions—shaping how External Relations understands its performance, mentoring the next generation of analysts, and helping build an enterprise analytics function that is trusted, scalable, and positioned to grow alongside emerging technology.

Responsibilities
Reporting, Analysis & Strategic Support
- Design, develop, and maintain enterprise dashboards and reporting products that communicate fundraising activity, performance trends, pipeline health, and advancement outcomes to leadership and unit partners.
- Analyze fundraising outcomes, giving trends, and constituent behavior to surface strategic insights that inform unit strategy, goal-setting, and institutional decision-making.
- Own the development and maintenance of pipeline forecasting models and dashboards that project commitment and cash activity, support scenario planning, and provide leadership with multi-year outlooks to guide campaign strategy and resource allocation.
- Develop reporting methodologies that integrate data from multiple sources and complex constituent databases to produce reusable, scalable analytic products.
- Lead the preparation of quarterly and year-end reporting packages for 20+ school and unit partners and provide data-informed recommendations to support leadership with strategic decision-making and campaign execution.
- Stay current on economic conditions, philanthropic trends, and higher education advancement practices that may affect data interpretation and strategic planning.
AI & Emerging Technology
- Maintain working knowledge of AI tools and platforms relevant to advancement analytics and evaluate, pilot, and advise on their practical, responsible integration into team workflows and the broader UVA Advancement environment.
- Partner with technology and operations stakeholders to assess new platforms for fit, feasibility, and scalability within existing infrastructure.
Data Integrity, Standards & Collaboration
- Maintain data accuracy and consistency across all reporting outputs, ensuring alignment with enterprise metric definitions and analytic standards; lead data quality feedback loops by identifying issues and routing them to appropriate owners.
- Work closely with BI & Analytics and Operations teammates, the Prospect Management and Research team, and Advancement community partners to fulfill data and reporting needs.
- Support adoption of enterprise dashboards and analytic tools through presentations, training, and ongoing partner communication, while upholding privacy, governance, and compliance standards.
Leadership & Mentorship
- Serve as a mentor and technical resource to other Business Intelligence Analysts, supporting their growth in analytical skills, reporting tool proficiency, and professional development.
- Provide guidance and feedback on analyst work products, take on project ownership and cross-functional coordination as needed, and model best practices in data stewardship, analytic rigor, and stakeholder communication.
- Contribute to onboarding, documentation, and knowledge-transfer efforts that strengthen team consistency and long-term sustainability.
- Perform other duties as assigned to advance team objectives.

The ideal candidate is highly analytical, intellectually curious, and collaborative, with a strong command of data and reporting tools, the ability to communicate complex findings clearly to varied audiences, and a genuine interest in the evolving role of artificial intelligence in analytics environments. This is a role for someone who leads by example and is eager to help build a best-in-class analytics function for higher education advancement. The Business Intelligence Analyst will report to the Associate Director of Advancement Analytics.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree
- 5+ years of relevant professional experience required. Any combination of education, training, and/or experience will be considered.
Experience must include:
- Data manipulation, extraction, and analysis at scale.
- Data visualization and dashboard development using enterprise BI tools.
- Working with stakeholders to deliver business insights that drive performance.
- Quantitative and qualitative analysis in a complex organizational environment.
- Ability to present complex analytical findings clearly and concisely to varied audiences, and to manage multiple projects simultaneously under tight deadlines.
- Proficiency in SQL for data extraction and analysis.
- Proficiency in Tableau for enterprise report and dashboard development.
- Microsoft Office Suite, with particular strength in Excel for data manipulation and review.
- Skills in AI technology and platform integration, including practical experience evaluating or applying AI tools in an analytics or business intelligence context.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in role-focused fields (Business Analytics, Data Science, etc.)
- Experience working in higher education environments.
- Experience in nonprofit BI/analytics, particularly within advancement or fundraising.
- Familiarity with fundraising, advancement, or constituent engagement data.
- Working knowledge of Snowflake databases and Salesforce platforms, particularly Ascend and CRM Analytics, for CRM data management and reporting.
- Familiarity with Python or R Studio for advanced data analysis and modeling.
Physical Demands
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
Salary Range
- The anticipated hiring range is $89,000 - $93,000 / year, commensurate with education and experience.

- UVA External Relations offers a flexible and hybrid workplace. All team members must have access to and maintain a secure home office environment with high-speed internet service and work collaboratively with others using a variety of technologies and tools. This hybrid position can be worked remotely, with the expectation of being in Charlottesville, VA, a minimum of four times a year at UVA’s expense.
