UVA Health is hiring a Communications Specialist to support the communications functions for the Executive Vice President of Health Affairs/CEO of UVA Health. The position is guided by a Senior Communications Strategist and reports into the UVA Health Office of Strategic Marketing & Communications.

Jobs in this group are typically responsible for creating internal and external communications and engagement tactics for health system executives. They develop and execute strategies for team member engagement, public relations, and digital content to enhance visibility and engage with various audiences.

These roles are responsible for handling a range of tasks across various communications functions. Staff and leaders in these positions may engage in writing, editing, digital media management, communications design, public relations, event planning and other activities as needed to support comprehensive communications strategies.
Responsible for coordinating and contributing to the executive communications plans which advance the thought leadership of the CEOs of UVA Health and UVA Medical Center. Reporting to the Director of Strategic Communications, this role supports the ongoing communications needs of these senior leaders and participates in related projects as needed. Duties include a combination of administrative work — such as coordinating executive visits and tracking numerous communications projects for a team of writers to ensure timely delivery — and emerging professional work — such as ghostwriting correspondence, maintaining social media accounts for leaders, writing articles, and designing and distributing mass-mail publications and blogs. The ideal candidate will have an emerging understanding of both the communications profession and project management.
What Will You Do
  • Supports internal and external communications strategies to achieve specific, measurable goals, ensuring needs of executive communications plans are met aligned with system priorities.

  • Serves as the primary conduit for and tracker of copy flow through the editorial process for executive communications.

  • Partners with administrative professionals for executives to ensure communications projects fit into schedules and are kept on time and on target.

  • Plan, develop, and publish internal and external communications for UVA Health and UVA Medical Center leaders, including but not limited to correspondence, talking points, and videos.

  • Write and edit various in-house and external publications, including but not limited to newsletters, press releases, profiles, and articles. Consult with staff, faculty, and outside sources as necessary to ensure accuracy.

  • Coordinate and assist with in-person and virtual events for leaders, including providing talking points and other preparation.

  • Maintains social media presence for leaders and collaborates with social media team to ensure executives' social media presence aligns with organization's broader social media strategy.

  • Serves as first point-of-contact for certain communications platforms, as assigned. Responds to emails and phone calls as needed.

  • Ensures compliance with editorial guidelines and visual standards.

  • Manages measurement of executive communications initiatives.

  • Supports significant special projects as assigned by department leadership.

  • Provide general clerical and administrative support to the Director of Strategic Communications and broader Marketing and Communications team.

  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education: Bachelor's Degree in a related field such as English, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing.
Experience: At least two years of experience in corporate or executive communications, internal communications, marketing, public relations, or a related field.
Licensure: None.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.

The pay range for this role is $60,236.80 - $72,016.00 annually. Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate's qualifications, previous work experience, and/or education.
