As an Advanced Practice Provider on the Inpatient Advanced Heart Failure team, you will play a central role in delivering highly specialized care to patients requiring complex cardiac management, supporting both their immediate needs and long-term treatment trajectories.

The Role:

In this role, you will serve as a key clinical partner within a multidisciplinary heart failure team, contributing to the comprehensive management of patients across the inpatient setting. This is a fast paced, high‑acuity environment where critical thinking, strong clinical judgment, and effective communication are essential.

A typical day includes both independent clinical decision making and close collaboration with physicians and interdisciplinary team members to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

You will:

  • Provide direct inpatient care for patients with advanced heart failure, including those requiring complex therapies and interventions

  • Conduct daily rounding, detailed patient assessments, and real-time care plan adjustments based on evolving clinical needs

  • Collaborate closely with cardiologists, intensivists, surgeons, nursing staff, and fellow APPs to coordinate and execute care plans

  • Support admissions, discharges, and transitions of care, ensuring continuity and patient safety

  • Deliver patient and family education, helping individuals better understand diagnoses, treatment options, and long-term disease management

  • Contribute to a high-functioning, team based model of care focused on clinical excellence, efficiency, and compassionate delivery

Clinical

  • Provides expert evidence-based, top-of-scope care in their clinical practice

Administration

  • Contributes to clinical quality improvement work

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: Graduate of an accredited graduate school of nursing or physician assistant program with a master’s degree.

Experience: Department and unit specific.

Licensure: License or license eligible as an Advance Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner, Physician Associate, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, and Certified Nurse Midwife) as set forth by the state of Virginia. If Nurse Practitioner, license to Practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia is required. Must demonstrate and maintain all credentialing and licensing requirements of UVA Health System, the Virginia Board of Medicine or the Virginia Board of Nursing, and appropriate certifying bodies. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required. Current PALS/NRP, as required, specific to position. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) as required, specific to position.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently bending/stooping, reaching (overhead, extensive, and repetitive); Repetitive motion: computer keyboard. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull 50 - 100lbs. May be exposed to noise, radiation, radioactive materials, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.

The pay range for this role is $116,123.00 - $171,163.20 annually. Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate's qualifications, previous work experience, and/or education.
