Lead the people, technology, and daily operations behind diagnostic imaging services that clinicians rely on to make timely, informed decisions. This is a highly visible opportunity to influence patient safety, team performance, and the continued advancement of diagnostic, fluoroscopic, and intraoperative imaging across UVA Health.

The Manager of Diagnostic Imaging provides operational and people leadership for a multidisciplinary team of approximately 55 Diagnostic Radiology Technologists, Imaging Interns, and Radiology Clinical Associates. Working through three direct-report supervisors, this leader will strengthen collaboration, guide complex daily operations, and help prepare the department for important equipment and Emergency Department enhancements.

The Role

In this role, you will balance real-time operational leadership with the thoughtful development of supervisors and frontline imaging professionals. You will maintain a strong presence with the team, remove barriers to patient care, and partner across disciplines to keep imaging services safe, responsive, and aligned with organizational priorities.

An average day may include:

  • Leading daily team huddles and connecting with supervisors to review staffing, workflow, patient-care priorities, and emerging concerns.

  • Providing oversight for diagnostic imaging and fluoroscopy guidance performed throughout the medical center.

  • Coaching three supervisors and supporting the performance, engagement, and professional development of approximately 55 technologists, interns, and Radiology Clinical Associates.

  • Participating in interdisciplinary meetings and fulfilling key responsibilities within Radiology leadership.

  • Solving moderately complex operational challenges involving staffing, workflow, equipment, service delivery, and competing clinical priorities.

  • Ensuring team members are deployed effectively, and daily work is completed safely, efficiently, and within established resources.

  • Collaborating with leaders inside and outside Radiology to coordinate services and advance shared patient-care goals.

  • Helping guide the department through Emergency Department renovations, fixed diagnostic equipment upgrades, and the incorporation of overhead ceiling lifts designed to support patient and team-member safety.

This is an excellent next step for an experienced RT(R) who is ready to expand their leadership impact. The strongest candidates will bring substantial diagnostic imaging experience, progressive leadership responsibility, and demonstrated success collaborating across clinical and operational teams. Operating room imaging experience is valuable, but the ability to build relationships, develop people, and lead through change will be equally important.

The position follows a primarily Monday through Friday schedule with eight-hour shifts. The core schedule is approximately 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with some flexibility in scheduled hours. Following onboarding, the manager participates in backup manager on-call coverage approximately once every five to six weeks.

  • A meaningful leadership scope with the ability to influence quality, safety, workforce development, and the patient experience.

  • A collaborative structure that includes three supervisor direct reports and an experienced team of imaging professionals.

  • The opportunity to lead during a period of facility renovation and imaging technology modernization.

  • Broad interdisciplinary exposure and the ability to build productive partnerships beyond Radiology.

  • A defined pathway for an accomplished imaging professional to move into a more formal and influential management role.

  • The opportunity to succeed a leader who was promoted to Imaging Director, reflecting the potential for professional growth within Imaging leadership.

  • A workplace where your clinical credibility and operational judgment can directly improve how teams deliver care.
