The senior engineering leader for Personal Investor Chief Data and Analytics Office (PI CDAO) will be a technical expert and thought leader who will help create and sustain a strong engineering culture while bringing in the latest industry trends, best practices and innovations. This role will raise the bar for engineering talent and deliver world class execution (as measured by agility and DORA metrics) on behalf of our clients, realizing our vision of driving stronger business decision quality and operational efficiency through the power of data driven insights, advanced analytics, artificial intelligence and machine learning.
 

This senior leader will have experience across Cloud Native Development, DevOps, SRE / Reliability Engineering and Agile development practices, be experienced in implementing modern data technology solutions and serve as a key influencer across divisional boundaries building organizational support and driving transformational change across Vanguard’s technology landscape.
 

This role reports into the Head of Architecture and Engineering and manages team(s) of engineers responsible for developing data technology solutions. These solutions span building data platforms like data marketplace, data lake etc., scaling complex analytical models into enterprise solutions, data lifecycle management capabilities, data APIs (across all integration styles – CDC, Database replication, ETL, REST, Graph, gRPC, Streaming and Messaging) and development of reliable data pipeline frameworks to automate high-volume and real-time data delivery.
 

Core Responsibilities

• Hires, evaluates, and supervises crew. Provides guidance and training as necessary to develop crew. Sets performance standards, reviews performance, and makes informed compensation decisions in accordance with all applicable Human Resources policies and procedures.

• Manages and optimizes the automation of key ETL (Extract / Transform / Load) and quality assurance processes for large volumes of data.

• Consults with senior leaders on the strategies and operating plans. Executes and adjusts plans for team of Data Engineers. Develops a clear understanding of Data Analytics and Management work across Vanguard businesses and how they connect.

• Directs the planning, prioritization, and execution of data production projects and processes.

• Manages the design and development of software and processes to support large scale, efficient data pipelines. Optimizes the availability of data to generate insights and address business needs.

• Monitors and troubleshoots software and processes for data consistency and integrity. Integrates complex and large-scale data from a variety of sources for business partners to generate insight and make decisions.

• Develops and exercises cross-functional data delivery to support business needs. Manages data integrity and quality standards.

• Builds and recruits a team of Data Engineering experts across Vanguard.

• Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.
   

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree

• At least 5 years of Engineering leadership experience

• At least 5 years of AWS cloud experience

• At least 3 years of experience building data products and technology solutions
   

Preferred Qualifications:

• Masters’ Degree

• 10+ years of work experience, with at least 5 years in Engineering leadership

• 7+ years of experience developing in Python, Java, Scala, Node, SQL

• 4+ years of experience in data quality, privacy and security

• 4+ years of experience with Distributed data/computing tools (MapReduce, Hadoop, Hive, EMR, Kafka, Spark etc.)

• 4+ year experience working on real-time data and streaming applications

• 4+ years of data warehousing experience (Redshift or Snowflake)

• 4+ years of experience in Agile practices

• 3+ years of rich experience in modern database technology evaluation and data modeling

• 3+ years of experience in building highly resilient distributed cloud native data solutions

• 3+ years in data engineering including experience in distributed data pipelines and test data engineering

• AWS certified DevOps Engineer Professional / Machine Learning Specialty
