The Impact You Will Have
As an AVP you will be leading the Data Engineering capacity of our Technology Team. The teams are made up of a diverse group of data and quality assurance engineers of varied seniority levels. You will achieve success by empowering the team, driving growth and satisfaction across multiple agile teams. You will collaborate with Data Scientists, Data Analysts, Engineering Managers, Engineers, Product Owners and other stakeholders to drive technology and cultural changes throughout the organization.
You will join the stellar WDTech team, where you will be able to do all of the above while having a lot of fun with colleagues from all over the world and all the room you need to learn and grow.
Primary Responsibilities
Provide technical direction and strategy for the team and create a structured roadmap on how to get there.
Work with cross-functional teams to support the organization’s data needs to achieve greater functionality in our data systems and architecture.
Develop and empower technical leaders and engineers in their journey towards technical mastery.
Enrich engineers’ job satisfaction through involvement and refinement of all aspects of experience within the company: recruitment, onboarding, day-to-day working modus, appraisal, and career growth planning.
Provide a transparent reporting line on progress to both team members and stakeholders, removing surprises in delivery cycles.
Enforce quality of execution within engineering, defining, and adhering to best practices, KPIs and SLAs.
This is a hybrid role with a preference for 2 days in office.
Education and Experience
BS in Computer Science, Math or related technical field
5 or more years’ experience building and leading teams of engineers.
8 or more years experience developing distributed cloud environments at scale.
Strong understanding of data ETL and processing techniques.
Strong understanding of relational and analytical databases, data warehousing, data modeling, and relational storage concepts
Strong understanding of Python and SQL.
Strong understanding in modern data architecture (batch/stream processing, storing and
serving).
Experience recruiting and coaching skilled engineers, ability to uplevel existing team by developing leaders.
Experience in building solutions in AWS.
Ability to show ownership of your work, take on challenges and acknowledge growth opportunities, and demonstrate patience when learning new processes.
Courtesy, respect, and thoughtfulness in teaming with colleagues and other stakeholders

Experience in both small and large scale applications

Experience in large-scale data governance and management
