About this role:

We are currently seeking a highly skilled Senior Accountant to join our team, specializing in technical review within EMEA Regulatory Reporting. Your key responsibilities will include conducting meticulous technical reviews of external reporting, actively participating in governance forums such as the Regulatory Interpretation Forum, and providing expert regulatory policy advice. You will play a crucial role in ensuring compliance through thorough review of reporting output, delivering technical guidance on reporting requirements, and evaluating control activity within reporting processes.

The EMEA Controller team holds a pivotal position in managing regulatory, financial, and management reporting obligations across the region. As an integral component of the International Controllers organization, this team offers indispensable local support to various financial services business lines and the International CFO.

In this role, you will:

  • Manage the performance of regulatory reporting production tasks as necessary, including:

    • Run defined production processes involving data transformation, and as necessary adjustment, to create required outputs.

    • Operate key production related controls, including investigation and resolution of issues where required.

    • Perform analytical review of reporting output, including provision of commentary as necessary.

  • Support the EMEA Regulatory Controller on the development and operation of a comprehensive ‘technical review’ structure aimed at:

    • Performing substantive review of reporting output after submission to identify specific instances of rules non-compliance and/or misreporting.

    • Producing report specific rules compliance review documents.

    • Review of rules compliance documentation to ensure technical accuracy and alignment to production processes/outputs.

  • Support development and maintenance of a robust and effective control environment:

    • Work with control stakeholders to ensure that operating controls are fully aligned to the standards and expectations of the EMEA Controller function.

    • Perform scheduled/recurring control testing in conjunction with control team members to assess status & effectiveness.

    • Assist in development of ‘rules traceability’ tools and information to increase transparency on reporting approaches and outcomes.

  • Participate in change management activities to support ongoing reporting accuracy and process efficiency:

    • Partner with the change management and technology functions to support major change delivery, including (but not limited to) provision of technical/business requirements, engagement with testing, creation of revised operating models and supporting documentation.

  • Engage with control partners across the three lines of defence:

    • Answer technical queries on an ad-hoc basis.

    • Provide reviewers with supporting information and rationales underpinning reporting treatments.


Required Qualifications:

  • Experience preparing regulatory returns for a financial services organization, ideally encompassing both US and International (UK/European capital & liquidity returns, as well as financial/statistical reporting) output.

  • Experience in Finance, Accounting, Analytics, Financial Reporting, Accounting Reporting, Risk Reporting, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education.

  • Strong knowledge of regulatory rules and instructions including (but not limited to) CRR2, MIFIDPRU, IFR/IFD, BoE statistical returns.

  • Experience of performing technical or substantive reviews across regulatory reporting output.

  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to present concisely and accurately to senior audiences.

  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently within a team structure.

  • Innovative mindset, with a track record of process enhancement (enhancing efficiency, control, transparency).

  • Understanding of regulatory/best in class expectations in respect of controls and governance.

  • Honesty and integrity in all aspects of their work.

  • Intuitive; fast learner with good problem-solving skills.

  • Good time management and organisational skills.

  • Knowledge of ‘NextGen’ tools such as Alteryx, Workiva, PowerBI and similar considered an advantage.


Job Expectations:

  • Wells Fargo operates a Hybrid working model combining office and home working. The requirement is a minimum of 3 days in the office.
