About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking a Senior FIG Banker to execute the International Banking business strategy for Financial Institutions based in the European Union (EU) with the goal of deepening and developing client relationships to drive revenue growth, broadening the product connectivity and enhancing profitability within the risk framework of the bank.


In this role, you will:

  • Business Development: Directly manage a portfolio of clients within the EU, ensuring at all times that such activities are carried out in line with Wells Fargo policies and procedures, and local licensing requirements. This includes sourcing new business across Wells Fargo’s product suite for the customer base, tactically allocating capital to generate above hurdle relationship returns and prudently managing direct costs.
    • Contribute to development and execution of the strategy for the Continental European Financial Institutions portfolio encompassing client selection, coverage strategy, client planning, new business origination, capital allocation and risk management.
    • Demonstrate an in-depth understanding of capital markets, financing and risk management products and services to source business opportunities across this product suite alongside product partners.
    • Build long-term trusted advisor, consultative relationships with key decision makers at all levels.
    • Maintain industry and market knowledge and expertise.
  • Leadership: Provide direction, guidance and coaching to junior team members. Lead and oversee client engagement and transaction execution; and ensuring a pristine risk and control environment within Wells Fargo’s risk appetite.
  • Risk Management: Provide risk management oversight of the client portfolio from a credit risk and AML/Compliance perspective. This includes understanding and assessing key risks of the client portfolio, clearly communicating views, and providing recommendations including risk mitigation strategies where applicable. Ensure that all required documents such as annual credit reviews, relationship memos are produced on a timely basis while meeting the expected quality standards.
  • Reputation: Protect the Wells Fargo brand and appropriately manage reputational risk considerations. Promote a ‘One Wells Fargo’ approach to stakeholder engagement and management.
  • Governance: Understand and operate within Wells Fargo’s risk framework and policies and procedures. Understand and adhere to the Central Bank of Ireland, and other applicable regulatory bodies', requirements, policies and standards.
  • Partnership: Build trusted relationships with product partners and other key functional partners to deliver the firm to clients.


Required Qualifications:

  • Experience in Corporate Banking Relationship Management, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
  • Management or leadership experience
  • Extensive client coverage and/or product experience with existing and demonstrable relationships with European Financial Institutions (with a preference on DACH, Nordics and/or Benelux) including at Treasurer and C-Suite levels.
  • Knowledge and transaction track record of executing financing (DCM, structured finance, lending) and Markets (FX, rates and credit) transactions with Financial Institutions clients.
  • Understanding of Transaction Banking products.
  • Leadership skills with a demonstrated ability to develop and manage a high-performing junior team members to achieve results.
  • The ability to work closely with senior leadership and internal partners to align client strategies.
  • A track record of sound credit, compliance and reputational/franchise risk management and oversight.
  • Experience executing complex credit transactions ensuring efficient and prudent use of balance sheet and capital.
  • In-depth knowledge of the European Financial Institutions landscape, market dynamics, and regulatory landscape.

Central Bank of Ireland Regulatory Requirements

This role is designated as a Controlled Function 4 (CF-4) role under Part 3 of the Central Bank Reform Act 2010 (sections 20 and 22) and as such is subject to certain regulatory requirements.

Individuals who perform a CF role must have a level of fitness and probity appropriate to the performance of that particular function and must comply with WFBI’s Fitness and Probity policy. WFBI are required to carry out prescribed due diligence to assess your fitness and probity, and to satisfy itself on reasonable grounds that you comply with the standards of fitness and probity prescribed by the Central Bank of Ireland pursuant to any code issued under section 50 of the Central Bank Reform Act.

As a role carrying a CF-4 designation, the role holder will also be subject to the Common Conduct Standards under the Central Bank of Ireland’s Individual Accountability Framework and will be required to take reasonable steps to ensure the Conduct Standards are met.

The role holder will be required to possess and maintain the appropriate technical knowledge required to perform the role and to understand the regulatory obligations to which they are subject as a CF-4, to include, without limitation, the Conduct Standards and the Fitness and Probity Standards.

  • An individual who performs a CF-4 role arranges financial services for WFBI customers.
