About this role:

Wells Fargo is establishing a new APAC Payroll hub at their London Office and is seeking an experienced APAC Team Lead to join their global payroll team. This critical role will provide direction on payroll activities for approximately 800 employees across 8 countries.

The ideal candidate will have experience leading multi-country payroll operations and a strong passion for creating compliant and efficient payroll processes. Key responsibilities include:

- Overseeing day-to-day payroll operations within the APAC region

- Managing vendor contracts and relationships

- Driving process standardization, automation, and improvements in payroll controls

- Supporting the implementation of existing and new pay programs and related projects

This position reports directly to the APAC Payroll Manager.


In this role, you will:

  • Perform or guide others on complex payroll analysis such as technical aspects of Workday payroll processing’s and ensure that configuration implementations are tested and approved.

  • Managing end-to-end payroll processing for APAC countries.

  • Independently prioritize work and provide day-to-day-work leadership and mentorship to team; lead or contribute to implementation of new or revised processes and procedures that require coordination among various teams.

  • Advise manager, give direction to team members and escalate non-routine questions and problem solve complex and multiple steps processes.

  • Provide guidance and subject matter expertise to immediate team and Payroll area on wide range of information; respond to the raised concerns and determine appropriate course of action.

  • Working closely with the organisation’s outsourced payroll provider to ensure accuracy and compliance.

  • Support performance and overall effectiveness of team; proactively provide feedback and present ideas for improving or implementing processes and tools with APAC Payroll functional area.

  • Participate in audit walk-throughs and retrieve any artifacts.

  • Driving process improvements and supporting automation initiatives.

  • Providing guidance and mentoring within the payroll team to strengthen capability.

  • Building strong relationships with internal stakeholders, offering expertise on payroll legislation and processes.

  • Assisting and deputising for the APAC Payroll Manager.


Required Qualifications:

  • Maintaining your own payroll deadlines.

  • Sound working knowledge of managing a high-volume payroll.

  • Act as the point of contact for any escalated payroll queries.

  • Review, monitor and implement new processes to better the department.

  • Ensuring service levels are met whilst maintaining strong relationships and an accurate payroll function.

  • Balancing the payroll accounts by resolving payroll discrepancies.

  • Proactive, organised and sound analytical/problem-solving skills.

  • Specialist knowledge and experience running all aspects of an APAC payroll function.

  • Experience in Payroll, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following work experience, training, military experience, education.

  • Experience working as an efficient and comprehensive APAC Payroll Team Lead.

  • A proven ability to mentor and motivate a payroll team.

  • Ability to liaise with stakeholders and manage expectations.

  • Able to articulate complicated information to non-Payroll experts.
