Wells Fargo is seeking a Lead Specialty Software Engineer within the Technology Engineering organization. This role sits within our Print and Mail Modernization initiative and will serve as the technical lead driving the migration from legacy batch/on‑prem systems to cloud‑native, API‑driven architectures. The engineer will lead complex development efforts, embed automation and GenAI capabilities, and ensure the reliability and scalability of high‑volume, regulated operational workflows.
This position is critical to closing long-standing technical gaps, improving operational efficiency, and ensuring delivery of the bank’s transformation investments. Without this role, modernization efforts will be delayed, operational risk will increase, and key objectives tied to resiliency, customer experience, and ROI would be compromised.
In this role, you will:
- Lead complex initiatives on selected domains
- Ensure systems are monitored to increase operational efficiency and managed to mitigate risk
- Define opportunities to maximize resource utilization and improve processes while reducing cost
- Lead, design, develop, test and implement applications and system components, tools and utilities, models, simulation, and analytics to manage complex business functions using sophisticated technologies
- Resolve coding, testing and escalated platform issues of a technically challenging nature
- Lead team to ensure compliance and risk management requirements for supported area are met and work with other stakeholders to implement key risk initiatives
- Mentor less experienced software engineers
- Collaborate and influence all levels of professionals including managers
- Lead team to achieve objectives
- Partner with production support and platform engineering teams effectively
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of Specialty Software Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
Desired Qualifications
- Experience modernizing legacy systems into cloud-native or hybrid architectures
- Hands-on expertise with Java, .NET, Python, or similar backend languages
- Experience with microservices, RESTful APIs, and event-driven design
- Strong knowledge of CI/CD tooling (e.g., Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps)
- Experience with public or private cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure, or PCF)
- Knowledge of GenAI, automation, or intelligent document processing technologies
- Background supporting high-volume, regulated operational workflows (e.g., print/mail, statements, operational batch processing)
- Strong understanding of risk and compliance within financial services
- Excellent communication and leadership skills, including experience leading development teams
- Experience partnering with production support
Job Expectations
- Occasional on-call or after-hours support as needed for critical releases or production incidents
- Ability to work on-site at approved location listed

Pay Range
Reflected is the base pay range offered for this position. Pay may vary depending on factors including but not limited to demonstrated examples of prior performance, skills, experience, or work location. Employees may also be eligible for incentive opportunities.
$159,000.00 - $254,000.00Benefits
