About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking an Engineering Associate – Middleware & Automation to join the Chief Technology Office (CTO) aligned to Technology Architecture & Engineering. This role supports enterprise‑scale messaging and middleware platforms that enable critical business functions across all lines of business at Wells Fargo.

This entry‑level role focuses on automation, reliability, and operational efficiency across messaging technologies such as MQ, Solace, and Kafka. The role provides hands‑on exposure to large‑scale distributed systems, automation engineering, and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices in a highly regulated enterprise environment.

This is an excellent opportunity for early‑career engineers who are passionate about automation, scripting, and infrastructure reliability, and who want to build a strong foundation supporting mission‑critical platforms that power Wells Fargo’s core business operations.

You will also participate in the Career Opportunities in Development and Engineering (CODE) Program — a two‑year development program that runs alongside your full-time experience. CODE is designed for recent grads, coding bootcamp alumni and individuals with hands-on technical experience looking to break into tech. No four‑year degree is required.

CODE provides:

  • Immersive onboarding and foundational technical training

  • A supportive cohort experience of peers starting their tech careers

  • Dedicated mentors and program managers who guide your development

  • Professional development, career coaching, and workshops

Automation is a key focus area for 2026, and this role offers exposure to GenAI enabled automation, database tooling, and modern engineering practices, making it an excellent opportunity for candidates looking to build a strong foundation in database engineering and data driven operations.

Wells Fargo only considers candidates who are presently authorized to work for any employer in the United States and who do not require work visa sponsorship from Wells Fargo now or in the future in order to retain their authorization to work in the United States.

In this role, you will:

  • Support enterprise messaging and middleware platforms, including MQ, Solace, and Kafka, that underpin critical Wells Fargo business processes.

  • Assist in stabilizing high‑volume messaging systems, helping ensure reliable processing of messages across the enterprise.

  • Develop and maintain automation scripts and pipelines using Python and Unix/Linux tools to reduce manual operational tasks and improve consistency.

  • Automate provisioning, configuration, validation, and health checks for messaging components across environments.

  • Partner with Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) teams to convert manual runbooks into automated workflows, improving operational resilience and response times.

  • Help standardize environments and enforce operational controls through automated checks, logging, and evidence capture.

  • Participate in production support activities, learning how to troubleshoot middleware and messaging issues in a large‑scale environment.

  • Follow engineering best practices related to change management, documentation, risk discipline, and operational excellence within a regulated financial services organization.

  • Collaborate with senior engineers and cross‑functional teams to continuously improve tooling, processes, and platform reliability.

Required Qualifications:

  • 6+ months of Technology Engineering and Solutions experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education

Desired Qualifications:

  • Hands‑on experience with Unix/Linux environments, gained through coursework, internships, projects, or work experience.

  • Ability to write and maintain Python code, particularly for automation, scripting, or operational tooling.

  • Foundational understanding of software engineering or systems concepts, such as processes, networking basics, or distributed systems.

  • Exposure to or interest in messaging or middleware technologies (e.g., MQ, Kafka, Solace, or similar platforms).

  • Familiarity with automation concepts such as scripting, pipelines, or infrastructure automation.

  • Strong problem‑solving skills and an interest in improving system stability and reducing operational toil.

  • Ability to learn quickly, follow documented procedures, and work effectively in a team‑based, enterprise environment.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field preferred, but equivalent hands‑on experience will be considered.

Job Expectations:

  • The selected candidate for this role must be able to begin employment by March 18, 2026, in a full‑time capacity. This position is required to work from the designated posted office location and must be able to meet all expectations of the current hybrid work schedule, including regular in‑office attendance as defined by the team and program requirements.

  • Actively engage in the two-year CODE Program, including participation in training, mentorship, networking events, and career development activities.
