About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking an experienced business-minded Assistant General Counsel, Executive Director, to join our Technology Enablement & Strategy Legal team. In this high‑impact role, you will be a senior advisor to the global Wells Fargo Technology organization, guiding leaders on cutting‑edge technology and AI issues. You’ll help navigate emerging risks and complex legal challenges tied to our technological transformation across businesses including Corporate & Investment Banking, Wealth & Investment Management, Consumer Banking, and key enterprise functions.

As a recognized thought leader, you will empower senior technology executives by providing strategic, forward‑looking legal counsel on a range of enterprise technology and innovation initiatives. This role will also partner closely with Legal colleagues across areas such as regulatory and risk, cybersecurity, data and privacy, IP, procurement, litigation, employment, and business‑aligned practices.

In this role, you will:

  • Serve as a senior legal advisor to the Wells Fargo Technology organization and enterprise and line‑of‑business CIOs and control executives, analyzing, advising on, and managing technology and artificial intelligence issues and risks
  • Serve as a senior legal advisor to global technology teams supporting consumer and commercial banking, trading, capital markets, and investment platforms—including front‑office, middle‑office, and infrastructure technologies / Advise senior Technology leadership to shape objectives, strategies, plans, resources, and long‑term goals
  • Provide legal guidance on AI and advanced analytics use cases supporting markets and investment management, addressing governance, model risk, regulatory expectations, and controls
  • Support large‑scale technology modernization initiatives, including legacy trading and consumer banking platform remediation, system re‑architecture, and strategic vendor integrations
  • Advise on cloud adoption for regulated trading and investment workloads, including public and hybrid cloud strategy, outsourcing, resiliency, and supervisory expectations
  • Advise on data center resiliency, operational continuity, and technology risk management for critical markets and client‑facing systems
  • Partner closely with technology, risk, compliance, cybersecurity, privacy, procurement, and sourcing teams on complex, cross‑functional initiatives
  • Support regulatory and industry engagement on technology related matters, including analysis of AI regulations and legislation developments and advising on AI advocacy positions.
  • Interpret and apply global financial services and banking regulations impacting technology deployments, AI, outsourcing, disaster recovery, and data
  • Help design scalable legal and governance frameworks that advance technology strategy while managing regulatory, operational, and reputational risk
  • Collaborate with and influence professionals across all levels, including Regulatory Relations, Control Executives, Government Relations & Public Policy, and legal, risk, and compliance partners
  • Develop and lead implementation of strategic business initiatives to accelerate deliverables and drive new enterprise initiatives
  • Train and mentor less experienced attorneys within the Section

Required Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of Law experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
  • Active State Bar membership or the equivalent in a country outside the United States

Desired Qualifications:

  • Extensive experience as a practicing attorney advising banks or financial technology companies on supervisory agency reviews, risk and issue management, and remediation related to U.S. and international third‑party service provider risks, customer‑facing applications, artificial intelligence, fintech partnerships, business resiliency and continuity, import/export controls, and cloud technology
  • Significant knowledge of OCC, Federal Reserve, FDIC, FFIEC, FINRA, and SEC supervisory requirements for bank holding companies, banks, broker‑dealers, and investment advisors
  • Experience in financial services technology, including consumer banking platforms, wealth and investment management/financial advisor tools, and global markets, sales, and trading technology
  • Experience advising on enterprise adoption of emerging technologies, including AI enabled capabilities, with a focus on enablement, risk management, and responsible innovation
  • Proven collaboration skills with the ability to interface with regulators, internal regulatory relations stakeholders, external trade associations, legal subject‑matter experts across the enterprise, and business stakeholders
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with demonstrated experience advising senior leaders and providing expert analysis where law or regulation lacks clarity
  • Strong risk assessment capabilities and subject‑matter depth

Job Expectations:

  • Ability to work at one of our approved posted locations
  • Ability to work a hybrid schedule, in office at least 3 days a week

Pay Range

Reflected is the base pay range offered for this position. Pay may vary depending on factors including but not limited to demonstrated examples of prior performance, skills, experience, or work location. Employees may also be eligible for incentive opportunities.

$215,000.00 - $355,000.00
