About this role:

The Model Risk Management (MRM) Governance team at Wells Fargo is seeking a Senior Lead Enterprise Risk Officer in the Policy and Program Governance team to play a critical role in shaping and executing the firm’s AI Risk Management Policy and governance framework. This role focuses on building and sustaining strong cross functional front line engagement to support effective implementation of AI risk requirements, including governance, controls, and oversight for AI enabled use cases and services. The position serves as a key connector between enterprise AI governance, model risk governance, and front line execution.


The Senior Lead Enterprise Risk Officer should be recognized as a technical and policy advisor who takes initiative to understand the intent and objectives of requirements established in the AI Risk Management Policy and Model Risk Management Policy, leads implementation strategy with front line stakeholders, and connects the dots within and across AI governance and model risk programs. The individual should emphasize a customer focused approach, be accountable to outcomes, and ensure work products are appropriately socialized with impacted stakeholders prior to publication or implementation.

In this role, you will:
Policy and Program Governance

  • Provide vision, direction, and expertise to oversee implementation of enterprise AI risk management policy, procedures, and governance processes with appropriate integration into AI and Model Risk Management practices across business groups and independent risk management.
  • Translate policy requirements into corporate procedures, training, guidance documentation, and job aids to enable practical and consistent application of AI governance and AI risk management requirements.
  • Act as a policy subject matter expert, translating complex business, technical, and regulatory needs related to AI and models into objectives, plans, specifications, resources, and long‑term goals.
  • Educate front‑line partners on AI policy and governance requirements and implement effective monitoring routines to assess adherence and execution quality.
  • Provide oversight and credible challenge of front‑line processes used to execute AI risk management and model risk requirements.
  • Advise front‑line business on formal issues and corrective actions related to AI risk and model risk governance.
  • Identify, monitor, report, and escalate policy violations and exceptions related to AI Risk Policy and Model Risk Policy.
  • Execute and maintain AI risk and model risk governance controls, including documentation standards, control design, and monitoring activities.
  • Analyze data to identify trends and root causes to assess AI and model‑related risks.
  • Ensure artifact‑level data integrity, including identification and remediation of defects in systems of record (SOR) supporting AI and model governance.
  • Provide coordination and support between Model Risk Officers (MROs), Group Model Risk Officers (GMROs), and front‑line AI service owners, model owners, developers, and governance teams.

Program and Stakeholder Management

  • Define and implement strategies to integrate and align AI risk governance with other enterprise programs and risk teams to ensure AI and model risks are consistently considered and overseen across the firm.
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with front line AI governance teams, model governance teams, and key risk partners.
  • Develop and deliver presentations and key communications to AI governance, model risk executives, leaders, and stakeholders.
  • Interpret and consolidate information into leadership reporting that is clear, actionable, and effectively communicates risk exposure and non compliance with AI and model risk policies.
  • Ensure ongoing artifact level data integrity and remediation of defects within systems of record supporting AI and model risk governance.


Required Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of Risk Management experience (Compliance, Financial Crimes, Operational Risk, Audit, Legal, Credit Risk, Market Risk, IT Systems Security, Business Process Management) or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education


Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience in Model Risk, EUCT Risk, or AI Governance (first or second line), and/or Operational Risk governance.
  • Bachelor’s degree (BS/BA) or higher.
  • Ability to synthesize complex information into clear, actionable leadership reporting, including risks of non‑compliance.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills with the ability to clearly articulate risks, issues, and recommendations to stakeholders at all levels.
  • Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent organizational, multi‑tasking, prioritization, collaboration, and partnering abilities.
  • Proven ability to make sound, timely decisions in a fast‑paced, results‑driven environment.


Job Expectations:

  • Ability to travel up to 15% of the time.
  • This position offers a hybrid work schedule.
  • Willingness to work onsite at stated location on the job posting.

Pay Range

Reflected is the base pay range offered for this position. Pay may vary depending on factors including but not limited to demonstrated examples of prior performance, skills, experience, or work location. Employees may also be eligible for incentive opportunities.

$159,000.00 - $279,000.00
