About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking a Lead Software Engineer to join our Core Banking Modernization Program. This role will focus on designing and implementing microservices, modernizing legacy systems, and accelerating delivery using Gen AI. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in Java, MongoDB, and cloud-native development, and will collaborate closely with platform teams to ensure resilience, security, and scalability. In this role, you will be responsible for designing scalable microservices, developing data migration strategies, and integrating Gan AI capabilities to accelerate delivery. You will work closely with platform teams to ensure alignment with SRE, CI/CD, and security best practices in addition to compliance with non-functional requirements including performance and resiliency.


In this role, you will:

  • Lead complex technology initiatives including those that are companywide with broad impact

  • Act as a key participant in developing standards and companywide best practices for engineering complex and large-scale technology solutions for technology engineering disciplines

  • Design, code, test, debug, and document for projects and programs

  • Review and analyze complex, large-scale technology solutions for tactical and strategic business objectives, enterprise technological environment, and technical challenges that require in-depth evaluation of multiple factors, including intangibles or unprecedented technical factors

  • Make decisions in developing standard and companywide best practices for engineering and technology solutions requiring understanding of industry best practices and new technologies, influencing and leading technology team to meet deliverables and drive new initiatives

  • Collaborate and consult with key technical experts, senior technology team, and external industry groups to resolve complex
    technical issues and achieve goals

  • Lead projects, teams, or serve as a peer mentor


Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of Software Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education

  • 5+ years of Mainframe experience

  • 5+ years of hands-on COBOL and CICS experience

  • 3+ years of hands-on IMS and DB2 experience

  • 3+ years of Experience working with MQ and Kafka

  • 3+ years of Experience working in Agile and SDLC environments


Desired Qualifications:

  • Ability to lead and deliver moderately complex technical initiatives

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to evaluate and resolve technical challenges

  • Experience with Gen AI tools and platforms

  • Strong collaboration and communication skills to work effectively with peers, colleagues, and mid-level managers

  • Excellent communication skills at every level of the organization

  • Ability to lead and influence others and critique their work in a way that improves the overall team and the final product

  • Ability to be flexible to resolve production issues timely in compliance with problem and incident management policies in addition to being available during deployments

  • Deep knowledge of Enterprise Customer applications including Hogan CIS

  • Strong Risk Management awareness and mitigation skills

Job Expectations:

  • Ability to work in a hybrid environment

  • Ability to be flexible to provide production support activities, as part of on-call rotation, to resolve production issues timely in compliance with problem and incident management policies

  • Flexibility to support deployments and incident resolution as needed

  • Flexibility to support other roles – Business Analysis and QA Testing

  • Ability to work beyond regular hours to meet timelines
