About this role:
Wells Fargo is seeking a Lead Software Engineer to join our Technology organization. This role is responsible for leading the design, development, and delivery of scalable, resilient, and secure technology solutions that support critical business capabilities. The ideal candidate will bring strong hands-on expertise, technical leadership, and a passion for modern engineering practices, including cloud-native development and Generative AI–enabled solutions.
In this role, you will:
Lead complex technology initiatives including those that are companywide with broad impact
Act as a key participant in developing standards and companywide best practices for engineering complex and large scale technology solutions for technology engineering disciplines
Design, code, test, debug, and document for projects and programs
Review and analyze complex, large-scale technology solutions for tactical and strategic business objectives, enterprise technological environment, and technical challenges that require in-depth evaluation of multiple factors, including intangibles or unprecedented technical factors
Make decisions in developing standard and companywide best practices for engineering and technology solutions requiring understanding of industry best practices and new technologies, influencing and leading technology team to meet deliverables and drive new initiatives
Collaborate and consult with key technical experts, senior technology team, and external industry groups to resolve complex technical issues and achieve goals
Lead projects, teams, or serve as a peer mentor
Required Qualifications:
5+ years of Software Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
Desired Qualifications:
Lead the design and development of complex, enterprise-scale applications using Java and Spring Boot
Drive front-end development using React to deliver intuitive, high-performance user experiences
Architect and implement event-driven and streaming solutions using Apache Kafka
Design and manage data storage solutions, including relational and NoSQL databases, ensuring performance, scalability, and reliability
Apply Generative AI capabilities to enhance developer productivity, automation, and business solutions where applicable
Deploy and manage applications on Oracle Cloud Platform (OCP) or similar enterprise cloud platforms
Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineers, promoting coding standards, best practices, and continuous improvement
Collaborate closely with product owners, architects, and cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions
Ensure solutions adhere to enterprise security, risk, compliance, and regulatory standards
Participate in code reviews, design reviews, and production support activities
Identify opportunities to modernize legacy systems and improve platform resiliency and performance
Job Expectations:
5+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 1–2 years in a technical lead role
Strong proficiency in Java, Spring Boot, and microservices architecture
Hands-on experience with React and modern front-end frameworks
Solid experience with Apache Kafka or similar messaging/streaming platforms
Experience working with data storage technologies (RDBMS and/or NoSQL)
Exposure to Oracle Cloud Platform (OCP) or other enterprise cloud platforms
Working knowledge or applied experience with Generative AI technologies or AI-assisted development tools
Strong understanding of RESTful APIs, design patterns, and distributed systems
Excellent problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills
Experience in banking, financial services, or regulated environments
Familiarity with DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, and containerization technologies
Knowledge of security-first design, authentication, authorization, and data protection
Experience leading teams in Agile / Scrum environments
Ability to influence technical direction and partner effectively with architecture and business stakeholders
