About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking a Senior Systems Operations Engineer who is a IBM dataPower admin and APIGEE resource and shall also possess strong automation skillset and an SRE mindset.


In this role, you will:

  • Lead or participate in managing all installed systems and infrastructure within the Systems Operations functional area

  • Contribute in increasing system efficiencies and lowering the human intervention time on related tasks

  • Review and analyze moderately complex operational support systems, application software, and system management tools to ensure the highest levels of systems and infrastructure availability

  • Work with vendors and other technical personnel for problem resolution

  • Lead team to meet technical deliverables while leveraging solid understanding of technical process controls or standards

  • Collaborate with vendors and other technical personnel to resolve technical issues and achieve highest levels of systems and infrastructure availability


Required Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of Systems Engineering, Technology Architecture experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education

Desired Qualifications:

  • 1. Platform Operations & Daily Support

  • Ability to handle support operations Independently for Apigee OPDK, Apigee Hybrid,to ensure platform uptime, stability, and performance.
  • Lead operational activities for IBM DataPower, including domain management, cryptographic objects, firmware upgrades, service configuration, and cluster maintenance.
  • 2. Incident Management & RCA

  • Own and resolve P1/P2 high-severity incidents with quick response and deep technical troubleshooting.
  • Perform detailed Root Cause Analysis (RCA), document post-incident reports, and drive permanent corrective actions.
  • Ability to handle Major incidents independently.
  • 3. Support Process Management

  • Oversee ticket lifecycle management, SLA adherence, and escalation handling across support tiers.
  • Participate in and help manage on-call rotations and shift-left operational improvements.
  • Coordinate between Support, Engineering, Cloud, Network, Security, and Architecture teams.
  • 4. Deployment & Release Support

  • Support API proxy deployments, shared flows, developer portal configurations, and runtime troubleshooting.
  • Debug policy-level issues (JavaCallout, JS, Python, OAuth, JWT, KVM, Target Server configs, mTLS, etc.).
  • Collaborate with engineering to validate release changes, certify upgrades, and improve CI/CD pipelines.
  • 5. Upgrades, Patching & Performance

  • Plan and execute version upgrades, patching cycles, infrastructure migrations, and configuration refactoring.
  • Conduct capacity planning, performance profiling, load testing support, and platform tuning.
  • Oversee TLS certificate renewals, key management, rotation, and platform security posture.
  • 6. DataPower Operations

  • Operate and support IBM DataPower Gateways, including configuration of:
    • Multi-Protocol Gateways (MPGW)
    • WS-Proxies
    • Cryptographic profiles
    • XSLT, GatewayScript services
  • Troubleshoot runtime, policy, routing, and security issues on DataPower appliances
  • 7. Automation, IaC & Reliability Engineering

  • Expertise knowledge in Ansible, python, Unix scripting and contribute automating tasks like :
    • Monitoring & alerting
    • Deployment workflows
    • Health checks
    • Incident response
    • Config validation
  • Knowledge on Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) using Terraform, Ansible, and GitOps.
  • Contribute to automated recovery scripts and tools to reduce manual operational overhead.
  • 8. Observability, Monitoring & Alerting

  • Establish and maintain observability using:
    • Splunk
    • ELK
    • Grafana
    • Prometheus
    • Dynatrace / AppDynamics
  • Build dashboards for SLIs/SLOs, latency, error analysis, backend performance, and capacity metrics.
  • Improve proactive alerting to reduce mean time to detect (MTTD) and mean time to recover (MTTR).
