Imagine stepping into a role where your leadership shapes the future of Risk technology at one of the world’s largest financial institutions. At Wells Fargo, we’re searching for a Software Engineering Manager to help reimagine and modernize the technology powering our Risk ecosystem—a critical function that influences decisions at the highest levels of the company.

In this role, you’ll guide a global engineering organization through a transformation that blends cloud-native design, modern engineering practices, and emerging GenAI capabilities. You’ll have the platform to architect what's next while keeping teams aligned on delivering meaningful outcomes today. With newly established teams across the U.S. and India, you’ll build, mentor, and elevate a world‑class engineering culture from the ground up.

Your impact will span strategic planning, technical execution, and organizational leadership—owning everything from product delivery performance to workforce strategy and partner engagement. You’ll also serve as a trusted voice to executives and business leaders, helping translate technical vision into tangible, enterprise-wide results.

If you thrive at the intersection of engineering excellence, business strategy, and people leadership—and you want a role where you can truly steer the direction of a major modernization journey—this is the kind of challenge that doesn’t come around often.

What you will own:

  • Enterprise Risk Technology platforms, including AI‑enabled testing, controls, and monitoring.

  • Engineering strategy for GenAI, agentic systems, and automation frameworks.

  • Modernization of legacy risk systems into scalable, API‑first, AI‑integrated platforms.

  • Execution across globally distributed engineering teams

  • Technical roadmaps aligned to risk outcomes, regulatory expectations, and AI governance.

  • Executive engagement as a technology thought partner to Risk leadership.

  • Agentic risk workflows that orchestrate controls, testing, and monitoring.

  • AI‑assisted and AI‑driven risk execution (LLMs, rules engines, decision logic).

  • Modern control and testing platforms built on event‑driven architectures.

In this role, you will:

  • Manage, coach, and develop a team of individual contributor engineer roles with low to moderate complexity and less experienced managers who are responsible for building high quality capabilities with modern technology

  • Ensure adherence to the Banking Platform Architecture, and meeting non-functional requirements with each release

  • Engage with architects and experienced engineers to incorporate Wells Fargo Technology technical strategies, while understanding next generation domain architecture to enable application migration paths to target architecture; for example, cloud readiness, application modernization and data strategy

  • Function as the technical representative for the product during cross-team collaborative efforts and planning

  • Identify and recommend opportunities for driving resolution of technology roadblocks including code, build and deployment while also managing overall software development cycle and security standards

  • Act as an escalation partner for scrum masters and the teams to make decisions and help remove impediments, obstacles, and friction while encouraging constant learning, experimentation, and continual improvement culture

  • Build engineering skills side-by-side in the codebase, conduct peer reviews to evaluate quality and solution alignment to technical direction, and guide design, as needed

  • Interpret, develop, and ensure security, stability, and scalability within functions of technology with low to moderate complexity, as well as identify, manage and mitigate technology and enterprise risk

  • Collaborate and consult with the Product Managers/Product Owners to drive user satisfaction, influence technology requirements and priorities in the product roadmap, promote innovative and intelligent solutions, generate corporate value and articulate technical strategy while being a solid advocate of agile and DevOps practices

  • Interact directly with third party vendors and technology service providers

  • Manage allocation of people and financial resources for technology engineering including career development and performance management for engineers and managers on the team

  • Hire, mentor and guide talent development of direct reports to build the skills required to effectively design and deliver innovative solutions for the supported product areas/products

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of Software Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education

  • Strong technical oversight: Steer architectural decisions; enforce coding standards, security, and scalability practices to guarantees that fast-built solutions are reliable, compliant, and integrate well with existing systems.

  • Cross-Functional Coordination: Communicate continuously with stakeholders (product owners, user reps) and other team leads to keep team aligned with business needs.

  • Result-Oriented Management: Set clear success metrics and track progress toward them to ensure delivering measurable business impacts.

  • Expert in full-stack coding and tools in multiple languages (Python, Java, JS/React)

  • Strong AI and data proficiency, including experienced with AI/ML frameworks (e.g., LangChain) and model integration. Adept at data pipelines, APIs, and knowledge graphs for intelligent features

  • Strong communication and empathy skills, able to communicate across stakeholder organizational levels.

  • Ability to problem-solve, understand the business needs, and deliver a business-valued solution.
