About this role:
Wells Fargo is seeking a Senior Lead Credit Risk & Approval Officer who will directly support the Fund Finance Group (“FFG” or “LOB”) business within the Corporate and Investment Bank (“CIB”) , working with our origination, underwriting and portfolio management front line team as well as other members of IRM. Fund Finance team (“SFG”) sits within the Capital Markets vertical of CIB.
This role is responsible for the review, challenge, and approval of new transactions, as well as ongoing portfolio management, and risk surveillance. This role reports to the Group Senior Credit Officer for Financial Institutions and Fund Finance.
In this role, you will:
Provide a commercial approach to the business of balancing market realities with appropriate risk management.
Maintain appropriate credit quality and portfolio health through proper review and evaluation of new credit requests, modifications, and amendments, providing well-supported, timely and accurate credit recommendations/decisions, portfolio reporting, and risk rating updates, problem loan management, and non-accrual and loss identification and forecasting.
Work with FFG team in structuring, underwriting, monitoring loans, and portfolio management performance. Including, recommending changes to new facility originations for current and prospective Clients; review/comment on term sheets, deal structures and amendments to current deals (i.e. covenant levels/risk ratings/credit enhancements).
Partner with senior LOB originators, portfolio managers and Credit Risk managers to identify and manage portfolio trends, portfolio risks, concentrations, and other portfolio-level metrics, to ensure proactive risk management.
Identify and escalate emerging credit risks and concerns to senior leadership in a timely manner.
Lead complex initiatives including those that are cross-functional with broad impact.
Bring appropriate team members (inside and outside the LOB) into the deal approval process.
Assist the relationship management teams in providing clear and concise recommendations and analysis for distribution up the approval chain.
Stay current on market trends, regulatory changes, and macroeconomic factors impacting private equity, private credit and other issues related to fund finance and integrating insights into credit assessments.
Maintain a strong understanding of enterprise and business line credit policies, ensuring full compliance with internal standards and procedures.
Play an active role in knowing and supporting the customer by participating in due diligence activities, including management meetings, site visits, and calls
Assist and support business units in their efforts to prepare for and achieve satisfactory exams from RAR, OCC, Audit, etc.
Reinforce Wells Fargo’s strong credit culture and strengthen team member engagement across the region.
Develop and guide a culture of talent development to meet business objectives. Train and develop team members to ensure a strong pipeline of diverse future leadership talent at all levels of the organization.
Engage and influence stakeholders, internal partners, and peers associated with analyzing new business products and prospects.
Build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external clients, representing the organization with professionalism and integrity.
Required Qualifications:
7+ years of Credit Risk & Approval or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
Desired Qualifications:
A master’s degree or higher in accounting, finance, or economics.
Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
Formal Credit Training.
Strong credit analysis skill, supplemented by experience in originating, underwriting or portfolio management of commercial/corporate loans.
Well-developed corporate finance and capital markets skill sets.
Proven credit underwriting skills and ability to make prudent and appropriate independent credit decisions, and present concise recommendations to senior credit management.
Proven ability to work closely with LOB Leadership on strategic matters as well as closely with LOB origination team from initial due diligence to credit approval.
Proven ability to recommend actions on clients such as grade, correct exposure, work out and recovery action plans, and facility modifications.
Prior Financial institutions/private equity knowledge and experience a plus.
Prior experience in a risk management role.
Prior experience in client-facing relationship or product role a plus.
Ability to partner with internal constituents (Compliance, Operational Risk, RAR, Audit, etc.).
Proven track record with respect to satisfactory internal compliance and RAR examinations.
Experience in working with governmental regulatory agencies.
Solid understanding of commercial legal documentation and ability to work with internal or external legal counsel.
Strong financial quantitative and analytical skill sets.
Proven commitment to principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
