About this role:
Wells Fargo is seeking an Engineering Associate – Java Application Development to support mission‑critical applications within Home Lending Technology, part of our Consumer Technology (CT) organization. This team builds, modernizes, and maintains applications that support internal team members responsible for servicing home loans, managing payments, handling customer inquiries, and ensuring operational excellence across the mortgage servicing lifecycle.
In this role, you will support a combination of legacy and modern applications, including Java-based services, .NET components, cloud-hosted applications, and emerging AI-enabled tools. You will work with technologies such as Java, .NET, various types of web services, JSON, OpenShift, SQL Server and Oracle databases, as well as AI tools like Microsoft Copilot, Tachyon, and other AI platforms. Under the guidance of senior engineers, you will contribute to code enhancements, troubleshooting, application modernization efforts, AI-assisted engineering, and the adoption of cloud-aligned development patterns.
This position is ideal for early‑career software developers who want hands‑on experience with Java development, web services, AI‑assisted engineering, and cloud‑based application support, while contributing to real‑world systems that support Wells Fargo team members and customers.
You will also participate in the Career Opportunities in Development and Engineering (CODE) Program — a two‑year development program that runs alongside your full-time experience. CODE is designed for recent grads, coding bootcamp alumni and individuals with hands-on technical experience looking to break into tech. No four‑year degree is required.

In this role, you will:
Support application development for Home Lending Technology, including systems that help team members manage servicing tasks and process mortgage‑related transactions.
Write, enhance, and debug Java and Spring Boot applications and services, with occasional support for .NET components.
Contribute to the development and maintenance of RESTful APIs and backend services that drive internal servicing workflows.
Participate in modernization activities, including moving applications toward Azure and OpenShift cloud environments.
Collaborate on front‑end enhancements using Angular for internal servicing tools and dashboards.
Use AI‑assisted development tools (GitHub Copilot) to generate code, write tests, and prototype small AI‑driven components or chatbots.
Troubleshoot application issues by reviewing logs, analyzing service behavior, and implementing fixes under the guidance of senior developers.
Support integration work across modern and legacy systems to maintain stability and improve long‑term maintainability.
Participate in Agile ceremonies, including standups, sprint planning, and code reviews.
Maintain documentation such as design notes, READMEs, troubleshooting guides, and service diagrams.
Required Qualifications:
6+ months of Technology Engineering and Solutions experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
Desired Qualifications:
6+ months of experience building small applications or tools (100–300 lines of code) in Java, .NET, Spring Boot, or Angular, demonstrated through academic projects, internships, personal projects, or early full‑time roles.
Experience using AI‑assisted engineering tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot) or building small AI prototypes such as chatbots or automated scripts.
Familiarity with cloud‑native development concepts, container builds, or deploying sample applications to Azure or OpenShift through labs, sandbox work, or internships.
Exposure to web services development or integration, demonstrated through coursework, project‑based API work, internship tasks, or early‑career roles.
Experience debugging or refactoring code to improve performance or maintainability through labs, projects, or internship assignments.
Understanding of financial workflows or transaction‑based systems through coursework or relevant internship exposure (preferred, not required).
Experience using logging or observability tools (Splunk, Elastic, AppDynamics) in labs, class projects, internships, or early work experience.
Ability to produce clear technical documentation such as READMEs, design notes, or troubleshooting steps.
Experience participating in Agile‑style group projects, including sprints, standups, or using task boards like Jira or Trello.
Strong attention to detail when working with internal user workflows, data accuracy, and servicing system logic.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools such as Excel and Word, managing email and calendars in Outlook, and building presentations in PowerPoint.
Experience communicating technical issues or access-related concerns across technical and non-technical teams.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines in academic or professional settings.
Bachelor’s in computer science or related field preferred but not required.
Job Expectations:
The selected candidate for this role must be able to begin employment by May 13, 2026, in a full‑time capacity.
This position is required to work from the designated posted office location and must be able to meet all expectations of the current hybrid work schedule, including regular in‑office attendance as defined by the team and program requirements.
Participation in an on-call rotation approximately once every six weeks to support production systems.
Actively engage in the two-year CODE Program, including participation in training, mentorship, networking events, and career development activities.
