Engineering Associate - Java Backend Services
Wells Fargo
About this role:
Wells Fargo is seeking an Engineering Associate – Java Backend Services to support applications within Consumer CRM, Payments, and Marketing Technology, part of the broader Consumer Technology (CT) organization. This group builds and maintains the platforms that power customer‑facing digital experiences, marketing capabilities, payments workflows, and internal tools used across Wells Fargo’s consumer ecosystem.
In this role, you will contribute to both modern and legacy applications, including Java‑based backend services, Spring Boot microservices, REST APIs, and cloud‑hosted workloads deployed across Azure and OpenShift. You will work hands‑on with modern Java (Java 17), data services, integration patterns, and emerging AI‑enabled experiences such as LLM‑powered summaries, extractions, and assistant‑style workflows—developed under the guidance of senior engineers.
This is an excellent opportunity for early‑career technologists to build foundational skills in Java backend development, API integration, AI‑assisted engineering (Copilot), microservices patterns, front‑end troubleshooting (Angular), and cloud‑aligned development practices while contributing to real enterprise systems that support high‑impact customer and payment journeys.
You will also participate in the Career Opportunities in Development and Engineering (CODE) Program — a two‑year development program that runs alongside your full-time experience. CODE is designed for recent grads, coding bootcamp alumni and individuals with hands-on technical experience looking to break into tech. No four‑year degree is required.
CODE provides:
Immersive onboarding and foundational technical training
A supportive cohort experience of peers starting their tech careers
Dedicated mentors and program managers who guide your development
Professional development, career coaching, and workshops

Contribute to technology initiatives within Consumer CRM, Payments & Marketing Technology under the guidance of senior engineers.
Follow established engineering standards, best practices, and coding guidelines; offer improvement ideas as you grow in the domain.
Design, code, test, debug, and document backend services and features primarily using Java and Spring Boot.

6+ months building or consuming RESTful APIs, with an understanding of HTTP fundamentals; familiarity with SOAP is a plus.
6+ months working with databases (SQL or NoSQL), including writing basic queries; exposure to MongoDB is a plus.
