Communications & Marketing Intern - Spring 2026

Wiss, Janney, Elstner Associates, Inc. (WJE) is seeking an enthusiastic and creative individual for an in-person spring 2026 internship (January - May) with our Communications and Marketing team at our corporate headquarters in suburban Chicago, Illinois. All candidates must be currently enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s degree program in marketing, communications, business administration, or a related field. In this role, you will collaborate closely with our in-house communications professionals, gaining valuable, hands-on experience in content creation, branding, messaging, and event management within a professional services setting.

Intern Responsibilities:
Support the planning and delivery of large-scale organizational events and initiatives. Gain experience in event coordination, communication and engagement strategies, branding, creative design, and multimedia production. On-site support may be required.
Support the creation and management of marketing and proposal materials
Write content for the company's website, intranet, and social media platforms
Assist in the organization of shared information and photo resources
Assist in the development of video content for internal/external use
Employ marketing analytics techniques to gather important data (social media, web analytics, rankings, etc.)
Qualifications WJE looks for in an Intern:
Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s degree in marketing, communications, business administration, or a related field
Affinity for a fast-paced collaborative environment
Ability to organize and manage workload between a variety of ongoing tasks
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Interest in writing short, feature-style articles
Ability to simplify technical information for internal and external communication needs
Interested in learning about the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) industry
Strong attention to detail
Highly motivated self-starter
Curious and excited to learn
Familiarity with marketing computer software and social media platforms
Good understanding of the latest marketing trends and techniques
Proficiency in Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Photoshop, and ability to learn database programs
Basic knowledge of graphic design tools (e.g. Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator)
Physical Requirements:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This position requires visual acuity and listening ability. Individuals must have the dexterity to be able to operate office and field equipment such as computers, printers, fax/copy machines, telephone/voice mail systems, and other office and field equipment. Requirements may also include:
Ability to attend meetings at the various office, field, and construction sites
Ability to perform inspections of buildings and other structures, both visually and with instruments
Ability to lift and carry materials and equipment up to 50 lbs.
Ability to perform work in the temperature extremes presented by work in the outdoors
Ability to read construction drawings, diagrams, printed materials, and computer screens
Ability to record data clearly and write passages for reports, letters, etc.
Ability to travel
Ability to safely work at heights
Ability to safely use and/or operate ladders, scaffolds, lifts, and other access equipment
Ability to understand and appreciate safety training specific to numerous workplace and construction hazards
Ability to safely work in a variety of occupationally hazardous locations
Medically fit to utilize respiratory protection devices and other forms of Personal Protective Equipment
Ability to drive and safely operate a motor vehicle

WJE offers a robust, total compensation structure, where the hourly rate is just one component of an employee’s annual earnings. Additionally, employees may be eligible to receive overtime and variable compensation based on personal and company performance, often resulting in above-market annual earnings. Actual hourly rate will be based on several factors including consideration for a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies, and proficiency for the role while remaining mindful of our commitment to internal equity. A good faith estimate of the starting hourly rate (gross) for this position is in the following range:
