About the Role

As an Electrical & Mechanical Fitter - Substation, you will be required to live within Norfolk or North Suffolk as you will join our North Anglia team made up of 6 substations spanning Norfolk and North Suffolk within our Central zone. A formal training programme will be provided for which you may be required to travel to Eakring, Nottingham infrequently and you may have the opportunity to work away within other zones across the UK dependent on the needs of your assigned zone, throughout the year there are some weekend work requirements for which overtime will be paid. The Electrical & Mechanical Fitter - Substation will have the opportunity to take on the responsibility of a wide range of craft duties on Substation plant and equipment, including fault investigation, repair, safe and reliable operation and routine inspections in a cost-effective manner. You’ll typically be working within a team of 2 to 10 people and be involved with maintenance, refurbishment or the replacement of assets on the UK Electricity Transmission System Network. In addition to working on complex High Voltage equipment; you will also work on all kinds of ancillary equipment such as: DC battery systems, air compressors, diesels etc.


Key Responsibilities:


• Undertake craft duties on a wide range of plant and equipment
• Carry out role of ‘General Safety Supervisor’ and ‘Person in Charge’
• Hold appropriate safety documents
• Carry out nominated statutory and mandatory duties subject to competency and training
• Proactively communicate with Project Leader/Line Manager enabling work programmes
• Ensure work programmes are kept on track and budget maintaining target prioritisation
• Proactively work towards eliminating all accidents reporting all near misses
• Adopt safe working practices, risk assessment techniques, method statements and hazards awareness
• Provide mentoring and/or training to less experienced members of the team
• Utilise relevant digital/IT systems including information services, email and paper-based
• Record and access data in an accurate and timely manner

Essential:


• A full driving licence that permits you to drive in the UK
• Engineering level 3 qualification or an equivalent recognised apprenticeship
• Notable electrical or mechanical engineering on the tools experience
• Experience of working to health & safety standards

Desirable:


• IOSH Working Safely or equivalent
• Experience of working within the electrical industry
