About the Role

As a Project Engineer – Cyber Security, you will be required to live within a 45-minute commute of our Sundon site in Bedfordshire as you will join our CEN zone team covering circa 60 sites across the East & West Midlands, East Anglia and Outer London where you will be assigned circa 15 cyber security projects spanning the zone. You’ll have the flexibility to work from home or your local site (Sundon) for up to 2 days per week dependent on the needs of the business and the requirement to be onsite for a minimum of 3 days per week. The Project Engineer – Cyber Security will successfully facilitate delivery of Asset Operations schemes to time, cost and specification in accordance with the Network Development Process and the business’ regulatory and stakeholder commitments. Responsible for ensuring health, safety and environmental issues are managed throughout the process, driving accurate up-front design information, providing onsite support during delivery and completion of closure activities across allocated schemes.

Key Responsibilities:


• Undertake scheme design activities including inspections/site reports and chairing design reviews
• Ensure lessons learnt are captured and shared into development
• Establish most efficient contracting strategy for schemes
• Ensure production of competent site/works information
• Ensure completed tendering process and support tender evaluation
• Collaborate with Operations Managers/Project Leads ensuring clear forecasts of work
• Support the build of tactical plans with Network Outcomes
• Act as a ‘single point of contact’ for self-delivered schemes
• Act as NEC Project Manager including one delivery schemes where NG are CDM Principal Contractor
• Act as Client's Delegated Representative and Principal Designer or arrange for provision under CDM
• Perform CDM-coordinator role or arrange provision
• Commissioning Panel Chair and work towards next level of authorisation
• Manage/co-ordinate contractors/project teams to deliver projects to time, cost and regulatory targets
• Provide scheme information to delivery teams including design, equipment and cost/budget
• Monitor contractor site activities ensuring compliance with SHES, H&S, Environmental and CDM
• Ensure contractor investigations are submitted on time and in line with policy
• Own incidents ensuring contractors correctly report incidents and near misses
• Maintain high levels of quality and safety across all projects
• Manage the contractor commissioning and performance testing process on site
• Create and drive business improvements initiatives maximising efficiencies
• Lead design changes and apply policy to variation on design and scope changes
• Drive investment re-sanction submitting project scope and financial variation
• Support project closure activities including ownership and tracking of snagging requirements
• Ensure the provision of accurate “as built” documentation after delivery
• Support co-ordination of projects on the same site as other delivery vehicles

Essential:


• A full driving licence that permits you to drive in the UK
• Engineering level 4 qualification or an equivalent recognised apprenticeship
• Extensive project engineering/management experience
• Experience of working on cyber security projects
• Experience of business processes and governance
• Contract management experience
• Experience of working to CDM regulations
• Experience of working with cross functional teams

Desirable:


• NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent
• Experience of the Electricity Transmission System
• Experience of substation work and/or on HV cable systems
• Experience of telecoms engineering
• Experience of budget management
