About the role

National Grid Interconnectors is at the heart of UK’s transition to our net zero energy future. We operate a number of HVDC interconnectors that connect the UK’s energy system to some of our closest neighbours, allowing energy to be imported to and exported from the UK. As well as already owning a portfolio of HVDC Interconnectors, we’re working on developing new projects in order to ensure that we are able to meet the UK’s future demands for greener energy solutions.

The UJV Operations team are responsible for ensuring safe and efficient operational running of a portfolio of interconnectors including North Sea Link, IFA1, IFA2 and Viking Link. As a Strategic Spares Engineer, you'll play a critical role identifying, procuring, and maintaining strategic spares for Assets across the Interconnectors business.

In this role you can enjoy our hybrid working from office and home. You'll be flexible to travelling to our office (Warwick) and Interconnector sites (UK and Europe) as required. We are open to flexible working arrangements.

Key accountabilities

  • Provide visibility of all NGV I/C Operations strategic spares by maintaining a strategic spares register on SharePoint for UJV Interconnectors.
  • Liaising with Suppliers and OEMs to identify equipment / spares that are or becoming obsolete and ensuring strategic spares are identified and procured to ensure resilience.
  • Managing storage of all strategic spares to ensure strategic spares are available for delivery to sites when required.
  • Liaising with Project Directors / Managers / Engineers to identify strategic spares requirements for new equipment being installed and ensure they are sourced as part of scheme / project.
  • Drive continuous improvement through working with other utilities and industry bodies to ensure best practice is shared across the Interconnector Asset portfolio.

About you

  • Knowledge and experience of High Voltage Assets used in the transmission and distribution of HV Electricity, preferably with HVDC although this is not essential.
  • Willingness to learn/understand the importance of spares and logistics management.
  • Good knowledge of strategy policy and procedures development and implementation as well as good stakeholder management, influence and engagement focus.
  • Experience of delivering complex projects and a knowledge of basic project management principles and techniques.
  • Educated to a minimum of ONC/HNC in an appropriate Engineering discipline or NVQ in an Electrical Disciple or an equivalent recognised apprenticeship.

What you'll get

A competitive salary between £43,000 - £54,000 – dependent on capability.

As well as your base salary, you will receive a job requirement car, a bonus based on personal and company performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%.
