About the role

Senior Commercial Manager

Warwick, London or Leeds - Hybrid

To help drive commercial value for the end consumer and support the effective delivery of our projects.

If you want to decarbonise Europe and lead the way on how this should be done in a cost effective way across the world, then, apply for this role. We are delivering the key offshore infrastructure needed to re-wire the UK to allow the country to deliver its Net Zero ambition. The incumbent will develop the commercial frameworks and contracts that will allow marine grids to be developed and built and deliver value both for the end consumer and the NG shareholder.

The role has huge scope and potential and you will have the power to influence a lot of new infrastructure.

What's in it for you?

  • Up to £83,000 plus 20% Annual performance bonus & annual salary benchmarking
  • Company car or £6000 allowance
  • Double-match pension (for every £1 you put in we put in £2, to a max company contribution of up to 12%)
  • 28 days holiday (plus 8 statutory days, plus the opportunity to buy 5 more annually)
  • Life Insurance: 10 x your basic salary
  • Private Medical Insurance
  • Financial support to help cover the cost of professional membership subscriptions, course fees, books, exam fees and time off for study leave – relevant to your role.
  • Family care benefits including a back-up care service for when your usual care arrangements fall through (six paid days each year as standard with the option to purchase further days).

What you'll be getting up to?

  • Developing and delivering the contracting strategy for marine grids offshore projects.
  • Working with stakeholders including external Joint Venture partners to implement this strategy
  • Developing and maintaining key strategic relationships with OEMs and other suppliers as well as keeping abreast of their changing landscape
  • Implementing the best contract frameworks for all our projects, balancing the risks/opportunities as per the shareholder appetite and the JV appetite
  • Finding and pursuing commercial and innovative opportunities as and when they arise
  • Developing the business case for all the projects
  • Monitoring and tracking the commercial and contractual risks across projects
  • Ensuring the commercial strategy is applied consistently across projects.
  • Developing and owning the narrative that would allow the projects to stand up to commercial scrutiny by all relevant stakeholders (e.g. Ofgem)

About you

You have the gravitas to operate independently both internally and externally and to stand by your positions.

You are entrepreneurial, an expert at driving commercial value and can bring best practice from other parts of the energy sector as well as from other industries. You are open to new ideas and new ways of doing things.

You are keen to learn and will not be bound by your role profile in driving commercial value. An understanding of the regulatory environment that National Grid operates in would be desirable, as would a good understanding of procurement, commercial value, contractual processes, project management, and analysing and identifying sources of risk.

Don’t meet every single requirement? Studies have shown that women and people of colour are less likely to apply for jobs unless they meet every single qualification. At National Grid, we’re committed to building a diverse, inclusive and authentic workplace for everyone. So if you’re excited about this role but your experience or qualifications don’t match the job description exactly, we encourage you to apply anyway. You might just be the right person for our growing business in this role or another one.
