About the role

Great Britain's electricity infrastructure is undergoing an ambitious, exciting and important transformation. Together with industry, we are creating a cleaner, greener system, one that protects the planet and serves generations to come. The Infrastructure Development and Delivery Team within National Grid Electricity Transmission (NGET) are developing vital infrastructure to reach Net Zero.

As an Associate Project Development Engineer, you’ll support the Project Development Engineers as part of a multi-disciplined investment team in the project setup, option selection, development, sanction, tender and contract award of our construction projects.

You’ll support with feasibility, optioneering and engineering processes to develop ‘site intents’ which are then further refined to justify ‘intervention’ works, in line with our Network Strategic Intentions and Design Principles.

You’ll be involved at all stages of pre-construction, supporting with cost estimation, tendering, contract award, programme & project risk mitigation and innovation activities, as well as lessons learnt from completed and in-flight projects.

We’re flexible on where you’re based and support hybrid working however there will be a requirement for you to travel to our offices in Warwick 1-2 days per week, as well as travel to sites throughout England and Wales.


What you'll need

  • Basic technical knowledge of the Electricity Transmission System and the transmission assets.
  • Basic knowledge of the application of CDM, Safety and Environmental Regulations.
  • Project management skills including management of time, cost, safety and risk.
  • A ‘stakeholder-centric’ approach to delivering a high-quality output.
  • Basic understanding or demonstrable working knowledge of business processes and governance.
  • Stakeholder management skills
  • Good business writing and communication skills
  • Basic knowledge in Contract Management and demonstrated Commercial acumen.
