National Grid is hiring a Lead Program Manager, City of Worcester for our Corporate Affairs department in Worcester, MA.

Job Purpose

Join a team that plays a critical role in the reputational, operational and financial success of our company. Foster strategic relationships, communicate corporate priorities, cultivate influence and improve the way we operate – all with a focus on bringing energy to life for our customers. As a Community and Customer Manager, you will work directly with internal senior leaders and external municipal officials to advance National Grid gas, electric, DG and clean energy solutions. This highly-visible leadership role has accountabilities across the organization with limitless opportunities to develop skills for continued success at National Grid.

Key Accountabilities

• Develop and manage sustainable, ongoing strategic relationships with key stakeholders to gain support for favorable rate case outcomes, enhance National Grid’s image with regulators and government officials, and advance corporate objectives.
• Advocate for the “voice of the customer” and coordinate with National Grid’s functional areas – Customer, Gas and Electric Operations, Network Strategy, etc – to provide timely and appropriate responses to identified customer and/or community needs.
• Demonstrate superior customer service in the politically sensitive matter of emergency response by supporting the Director, Community and Customer Management with communications, fulfilling assigned storm roles, managing Community Liaisons and Municipal Room staff, and complying with the requirements established by Emergency Planning regarding annual customer and key stakeholder outreach.
• Promote National Grid’s clean energy initiatives to establish National Grid as a leader in energy technology and to share knowledge for future utility technologies (e.g. 80 x 50, electric vehicles & charging stations, grid modernization)
• Seek opportunities and champion efforts to enhance customer ease and increase customer satisfaction while responding to community and customer concerns and issues (i.e., “find a better way”.)
• Support the Stakeholder Management team in their efforts to provide advance communication of major transmission and distribution infrastructure upgrades by sharing pertinent project information with key municipal stakeholders.
• Evaluate market, business and account needs in the assigned territory to ensure coordination with National Grid asset planning and resources.
• Actively represent the company in industry and trade associations to enhance the company profile.
• Attend business and trade meetings and activities as well as City/Town/Village Board sessions, including those taking place outside of normal business hours when necessary, and make public presentations as required.
• Capitalize on opportunities to integrate National Grid’s social purpose agenda and strengthen a community’s quality of life while supporting community programs, building relationships, and responding to community concerns.
• Promote, comply and engage in safe work practices both internally and externally through sharing knowledge and demonstrations.
• Further personal and co-worker development to ensure the opportunity to succeed.

Qualifications

• Understanding of National Grid’s community and customer affairs policies and processes and how to apply them effectively.
• Understands the importance of procedures and standards of working.
• Demonstrated ability to give directions and/or clear reasons and rationales to National Grid’s customers and key stakeholders.
• Demonstrated ability to interpret information and analyze relationships among several parts of a problem or situation to clearly articulate the findings; ability to anticipate obstacles and think ahead about next steps.
• Demonstrated ability to challenge processes and use knowledge or trends to look at current situations.
• Makes self fully available for the customer, especially during critical periods (e.g., business emergencies.)
• Demonstrates an energetic and enthusiastic manner and the ability to bring value to the customer.
• Must be a champion of the energy industry, able to navigate the changing regulatory and economic landscape of today, while helping to shape the Utility of tomorrow.
• A strong understanding of Worcester and its community.
• Bachelor of Science degree in a related field or equivalent work experience required.

Salary

$118k - $130k a year

This position has a career path which provides for advancement opportunities within and across bands as you develop and evolve in the position; gaining experience, expertise and acquiring and applying technical skills.
