Key Accountabilities
Design and assist with the design of electric distribution projects. The designs are based on customer requests, inquiries, complaints, etc. regarding the establishment and maintenance of electrical service. Designs also include overhead and underground electric facilities, distribution system maintenance, repair, and improvement, public works, and routine program work.
Key Accountabilities:
1. Apply acquired knowledge of National Grid construction standards, Electrical Service Information and Requirements, and portions of the National Electric Code and National Electrical Safety Code to construction applications.
2. Read and interpret one-line diagrams, site plans and load information.
3. Perform analysis of electrical distribution design problems.
4. Be proficient in the current expanded Work Management Systems required to produce and progress Design Packages.
5. Effectively communicate with external customers, municipal and regulatory representatives, and contractors on a regular basis.
6. Advise customers in the proper application of their electric service.
7. Perform analysis of electrical distribution design problems.
8. Interact with internal departments and company employees to ensure an efficient overall process.
9. Promote a culture of teamwork, collaboration, and efficient resource utilization, both throughout the department and project teams.
10. Travel within region.
11. Participate in the training of employees.
12. Will also be expected to respond to emergency call out and work extended and planned hours when major company emergencies occur.
Knowledge & Experience:
Knowledge of customer service techniques, strategies, and approaches. Knowledge of electric theory and utility construction practices. The successful candidate must have good oral and written communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to develop positive customer relations; anticipate, identify, respond to customer concerns and problems in accordance with the job description and training. Ability to work successfully as part of a team with coworkers. Understanding of local municipality regulations and permit requirements. Ability to learn/utilize the current Work management Systems.
Qualifications
- An Associates of Science or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology or Computer Science from an accredited engineering or technological school is required.
- Must have passed Aptitude test.
- Ability to follow prescribed standards and procedures.
- Verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to plan, schedule & coordinate multiple ongoing tasks.
- Must be able to adjust to changing priorities and respond to requests in a timely fashion.
- Must be comfortable using advanced technology for the purpose of gathering and transmitting field data.
- Must have and retain a valid motor vehicle operator’s license which does not restrict hours of operation.
- Must be able to perform activities where it is expected that 25 pounds could be lifted, pushed, pulled or carried many times throughout the day.
- Must be able to work within confined areas at times and in inclement weather and temperature extremes.
