National Grid is hiring a Director of Electric Data & Systems for our NY Electric team in Upstate, NY. This hybrid position reports to its home base as required and requires some travel to our local offices.

Job Purpose
The Director leads a team responsible to deliver thought leadership, strategy, governance, and execution to deliver strategic data capabilities. The role will work closely with IT and the electric business counterparts to meet data requirements for our digital transformation and day to day business. Additionally, this role coordinates with peers within the digital solutions and technology teams to identify and execute data related opportunities ensuring that business outcomes are enabled with the right information, at the right time, with the right security.
Key Accountabilities
- Develop, grow, and coach a high-performing team to drive data strategy, management, and governance to meet NY Electric’s operational and transformational objectives.
- Lead NY Electric data strategy, roadmaps, and execution while coordinating with the broader Group data transformation ambitions.
- Identify the data capabilities and needs required to achieve transformation outcomes in coordination with the broader electric organization (including customer and related functions).
- Develop roadmaps with prioritized investments sequenced over time.
- Define and manage a resource strategy for the delivery of data plans and tier 1 system support.
- Define and own the execution of data platform as well as product build and management.
- Build a robust community across NY Electric to further data governance and ways of working, engaging key groups such as field operations, asset management, maps & records, customer, project/program management, and engineering.
- Execute key data workflow and gap closure work to enable business outcomes
- Manage the successful delivery of strategies, tracking progress, and ensuring accountability to meet roadmap requirements.
- Work closely with the IT function to develop technology strategy and execution that underpin the ambition of the business.
- Ensure clarity on benefits being delivered (including benefit ownership by impacted teams), tracking them from project inception through to realization.
- Drive change and communication around data for NY Electric to influence and inspire change across the organization.
- Develop relevant communications and engagement with stakeholders and senior leaders.
- Collaborate with internal and external change management and communications organizations.
- Act as a coordinating point to provide business insights from across the NY Electric organization, including internal and external benchmarking and future improvement opportunities.
- Proactively grow a network with other utilities and industry partners to leverage best practices.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience as a business leader at a senior level managing change programs is required, including the integration of multiple business units and proven ability to create and drive a culture of high performance, continuous improvement, and quality.
- Experience with support services and data systems for key legacy enterprise systems such as Smallworld GIS, ASPEN and IMAP (ArcGIS Online) or asset data or operational data is required.
- Solid knowledge of utility processes and data workflows but experience in other industries will be considered.
- Significant experience in commissioning/managing large-scale technology projects and programs of work within the electric utility operations environment.
- Track record of managing key stakeholders at senior levels in a large publicly listed organization during a change program to achieve tangible results and value.
- Strong leadership capabilities to lead, motivate, and develop required departmental capabilities and future leaders.
- Excellent problem-solving and strategic skills.
- Demonstrated ability to lead multi-functional teams and deliver project results in a comprehensive and timely fashion.
- Ability to communicate and work with people at all levels and across organizational boundaries, including the ability to comprehend and explain highly complex information to a less technical audience.
- Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills, with strong project management skills and experience working as part of a multi-disciplinary team with various levels of staff, including Senior Managers.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required, with coaching skills strongly desired to facilitate collaborative projects across departments and among senior managers.
- Solid knowledge of technical aspects the team uses to deliver including but not limited to data architecture, modeling, database management and configuration, data warehouse/data lake, data analytics and system support are essential.
- A valid driver’s license with a safe driving history that meets National Grid’s Safe Driver policy is required.
