Job Purpose

To support successful and on-time energization of substation projects including supporting the capital investment plan, and other emerging work or new technologies. This individual will be responsible for all Substation start-ups, in a safe manner, without impact to customers and the operating system. The primary interface will be with Operations, Engineering, Project Management (and more) for transmission and distribution substation project commissioning.

Key Accountabilities

  • Assist in the scoping for transmission and distribution substation projects including development of the scope, design criteria, construction review, data integration of deliverables (drawings, test data, etc.)
  • Coordinate energization work sequences, schedules, outage scheduling, job walk throughs and punch list preparation/completion as required.
  • Assure substation equipment is installed and tested in accordance with National Grid "Testing and Commissioning Standards".
  • Conduct site inspections to ensure adherence to engineering standards and specifications.
  • Request and approve start-up procedures, dispatch display and database builds associated with transmission and distribution substation projects.
  • Review all testing results and ensure they are filed appropriately within various databases.
  • Support construction and project closeout activities.
  • Recommend alternative engineering solutions to management to meet business needs.
  • Review operation and maintenance practices.
  • Manage multiple projects at one time.
  • Work in a Project Management team environment.
  • Travel will be required.

Supervisory/Interpersonal- Experience Required

  • Able to lead and supervise a project team or virtual teams to achieve business objectives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited engineering program. Master’s degree is a plus.
  • Minimum of 4 years work experience or equivalent.
  • FE exam preferred. PE license in NY is a plus.
  • Familiarity with Substation electrical equipment and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of the following is desired: Substation construction and maintenance techniques, Electric utility operation practices, Substation materials, Grounding and Lightning study analysis, IEEE, ANSI, NFPA 70, ASTM, NESC and the NYS Building Code.
  • Proven interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • Good working knowledge of industry standards, safety standards, and existing electrical design codes.
  • Proficient MS Office computer skills (Access, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, etc.).
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to physically navigate in and around an electrical substation.
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills.

More Information

Salary: $111,000 - $130,000
